Thanks, Cyc. Perhaps it's just me, but it seems to get funnier every time you read it. Glad to see the nation's restarted itself......
Also, perhaps Trump could replace Charlie when he gets stuck in the machine in Modern Times. What a classic film. Somehow, though, I can't see Trump wearing Charlie's hat. Yet I could see him in the Keystone Cops- or chasing Charlie round the cabin in The Gold Rush. Kenny, love your reference to Adenoid Hynkel- magical and topical.
I did not catch her name but the American guest correspondent on Peston On Sunday summed up Tuesday’s vote on the other side of The Pond perfectly when she described it as “electile disfunction”. Canadian comedienne Katharine Ryan made the salient point when singling out American members of her audience some time ago and telling them to vote for The Donald because he is “the President America deserves”. The Canadians would have a very long wall to build while The Donald was trying to get the Mexicans to pay for a shorter one to the south. Interesting that whilst the anti-Establishment rednecks continue to show up in their thousands to Trump rallies, it seems that the crowds only show up for Hillary when she has some headline celebrity act like Beyonce appearing. Less than 45 hours until it all kicks off...
Thing is QM, with the state of the political landscape in the UK, we're not really in a position to sneer at the yanks...
We are – we did not vote for our current leader and nobody outside of Momentum voted for the current ‘leader’ of the opposition. So many of us can claim it is all nothing to do with us! On Tuesday, a minority of Americans are going to vote for the lesser of two evils – the BBC ‘poll of polls’ gave Hillary a 46 v 44 per cent lead over The Donald on The Sunday Politics – and most of the world are hoping they get their first female President, even if she ends up getting impeached!
Just came to me while I was frying sausages for a snack; Donald Trump IS Art Land from the movie Mars Attacks - the second character played by Jack Nicholson!
The fact this is even close at this point is worrying. Hilary should win this comfortably tonight with any slight late surge, but it does have a Brexit feel about it. I cant explain what that means in numbers or factual terms, but there is a gut feeling in me that says despite all of the obvious, scandalous things Trump has been exposed on, the very fact that there are droves of Americans out there prepared to support him is not too dissimilar from all of the scaremongering that should have put the swing voters off Brexit. But they went out and voted for that and it stunned everybody, bookies included. It's not about whether Trump is strong enough at this point- it comes down to whether Hilary in opposition just doesn't quite provide the final nail in the coffin. "The lesser of two evils" is not necessarily what people turn out to vote for. I hope this is not a quote I have to remember from tomorrow morning onwards, but people voting Hilary Clinton tonight are not believers in Hilary Clinton- they are non-believers in Donald Trump. And that is very, very different from those who are voting for the Republican- they (somewhat sadly in my more open view on life) really do believe in this close the borders/fist-pumping big promise of his. There are two very different and very strong arguments as to why one should win over the other. But the passion and emotion, from the outside looking in, comes from the Republican camp, and that may yet play a decisive factor in this. I don't think I can recall at any other point in my life a time twhen politics has scared me- but I'm sat on the edge of my seat right now with world politics. The Russian press rhetoric, the potential for Trump to divide the US and Mexico (and who knows what other types of people), combined with the skewed and bitter representation of Brexit leaves the world teetering on the brink of unnecessary conflict in my view. I will repeat what I have said before- there are only a few world leaders, and there are billions of us humans. And we are united in that no matter what our creed, colour or beliefs. It's up to us to set the standard on living in peace and as one- not some billionaire. Whatever happens tonight- we hold all the keys.
Maybe the 9-2 Clinton is still value. From what I've heard she has some states she can hopefully count on.
