The Oxford Dictionary definition of political correctness is:

"The avoidance of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against"

Examples of PC gone mad include:

    1. The BBC has dropped the use of the terms Before Christ (BC) and Anno Domini (AD) on one of their programmes and decided that the terms 'Before Common Era' / 'Common Era' are more appropriate

    2. The European Parliament introduced proposals to outlaw titles stating marital status such as 'Miss' and 'Mrs' so as not to cause offence. It also meant that 'Madame' and 'Mademoiselle', 'Frau' and 'Fraulein' and 'Senora' and 'Senorita' would be banned.

    3. Throughout several US councils and organisations, any terms using the word 'man' as a prefix or suffix have been ruled as not being politically correct. 'Manhole' is now referred to as a 'utility' or 'maintenance' hole.

    4. Loveable cartoon rogue Dennis the Menace has been given a politically correct make over. BBC chiefs decided to take away his edge in the remake. Gone are his bombs, catapult, water pistol and pea shooter - and in their place is a simple boyish grin.

    5. Spotted Dick - a classic English dessert has been renamed to avoid embarrassment. The traditional pud Spotted Dick has been given the title Spotted Richard, after UK council bosses feared the original name might cause offence.

    6. A school in Seattle renamed its Easter eggs 'spring spheres' to avoid causing offence to people who did not celebrate Easter.

    7. A UK council has banned the term 'brainstorming' – and replaced it with 'thought showers', as local lawmakers thought the term may offend epileptics.

    8. A UK recruiter was stunned when her job advert for 'reliable' and 'hard-working' applicants was rejected by the job centre as it could be offensive to unreliable and lazy people.

    9. Gillingham fans had begun to fondly offer celery to their goalkeeper, ‘Big Fat’ Jim Stannard. The club, however, decided that celery could result in health and safety issues inside the ground. As a result, fans were subjected to celery searches with the ultimate sanction for possession of celery allegedly being a life ban.’

    10. In 2007, Santa Clauses in Sydney, Australia, were banned from saying 'Ho Ho Ho'. Their employer, the recruitment firm Westaff (that supplies hundreds of Santas across Australia), allegedly told all trainees that 'ho ho ho' could frighten children, and be derogatory to women. Why ? Because 'Ho Ho Ho' is too close to the American (not Australian, mind you) slang for prostitute.

    11. Some US schools now have a 'holiday tree' every year at Christmas, rather than a Christmas tree.

We must have political correctness, or we'll have cripples and coloured people.

    Thank you very much.

The definition seems to follow my belief of the meaning of the original term. I would however contend the inclusion of the term "perceived".

The eleven examples provided are, of course, ridiculous and give no assistance and, in fact, hinder the original intention to end exclusion, marginalization and insulting behaviour to minority (or majority) groups.

I shall now return to my 'sensible' world and give great and deep thought to which race Black Hercules will run in next year's Cheltenham National Hunt Festival.

Seems 'The Donald' has now claimed that, had he been President in 2001, the World Trade Center (?) would still be standing!

Cue for Fox News to proportionally increase it's defamation of Mrs Clinton. Hillary; the bringer of wildfires, floods, hurricanes and pestilence!

Just logic really. He definitely stays the trip and the yard have Vautour to mop up the Ryanair. He could well turn out to be Willie's best Gold Cup chance.

Your logic corresponds with mine however last year's shenanigans with Vautour is holding me back from an ante-post plunge on the Gold Cup.

So far have entered the market with Thistlecrack and Native River so, as in past years, am looking for two or three more before season 2016/2017 gets fully under way.

'Political Correctness' led to a comment about the Cheltenham Gold Cup and I, as ante-post consultant to Herr Drumpf, just continued in this vane. 'OD' bears no responsibility in this clear contradiction of the newly introduced 'thread' rules!

Anyway, have you any views on which race Black Hercules may eventually run at the 2017 NH Festival?

Mr Eastwood seems to have taken up Mr Heston's ("cold dead hands" and all that malarkey) cudgel in US politics; back on subject!

"Eastwood became the focus of ridicule when he appeared at the 2012 Republican National Convention and spoke to an imaginary Barack Obama in a chair beside him. But he admitted the stunt was “silly at the time”.

Yes, the stunt was indeed silly. Clint really fell off his hoss?

I am trying to understand what on earth Eastwood is getting at, yet again, 4-years later. You'd think he would have learnt his lesson by now? Some of Trump's recent comments are borderline insane, stupid, ignorant, and beggar belief, and cannot be defended by any reasonable person.

Too many bangs on the heid from falling off horses and bar brawls for young Rowdy Yates (appropriate name for bar brawls).

Don't know what Mr Trump can use for an excuse. Listened to an expert on 'Trump' style political behaviour on the TV last night. Her experience informed her that his utterances would become even more extreme and would continue to be based less on facts and accuracy. She also explained why his followers/supporters did not seem to be bothered. She stated that for the most part they knew and accepted his views and policies (?) were ludicrous but solely wanted a change.

Takes me back to my later years with HM Revenue and Customs where we would be dragged off to (forced to attend) conferences or courses on 'Change', in particular the benefits of 'Change'. F.....n' torture for an old c..t like me. Too bleedin' indeterminate, imaginary and forward thinking for yours truly! In my mathematical and logical world if it cannot be proven (two Weissbier and two Schnapps equals four drinks) it is not worth diddly-squat. Gotta admit that some of my peers sucked it up and climbed the greasy pole! Me, I just slowly rose through the grades and made money from A-P wagers until I had enough to escape from Liz 11's grasp and withdrew from 'work'.

Very recent blast from Donald Trump as reported in "The Washington Post":

""We're letting people come in from terrorist nations that shouldn't be allowed because you can't vet them," Trump said. "There's no way of vetting them. You have no idea who they are. This could be the great Trojan horse of all time."

You know, one has to be fair even if you don't particularly like a person, but he has a damn good point there IMHO?

If he's not careful, Trump will be getting some kind of award from Bavaria's Minister-President, Horst Seehofer?

LMAO at this latest gem from Donald Trump:

"She's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've seen, you've seen it a couple times. The people in the background know it, the people who know her know it and she's like an unbalanced person."

    Erm, pot-kettle-black? <laugh> <laugh>

SH; do you have access to Fox News? All opinion polls, whether national or swing state, since Democrat National Conference and Trump's Khan family disaster have been aberrations or rogue!!!!!!!

For me it's a wee bit like when you were young. You might be watching something scary and uncomfortable on the TV but could not turn it off or leave the room!
