Its very obvious that if everyone tries their best each season and pull together to be better on and off field you improve.

If you get 4th once and don't do anything with it then what 12 years last try wum someone else about getting 4th youve not a leg to stand on.

    :)

If it leads to you winning CL the following year. All about context.

We sneaked into CL in 2004.... led to one of greatest moments in our history the next year.

Which we built on and created a fantastic squad and got to another Champions League final couple years later.

Arsenal have been continuously qualifying for nothing. They got to one final and thats all they have to show for it.

Gotcha. As long as you can predict the future then you're sorted.

    Why?

It was a daft comment from the lad. He'd rather forego winning a trophy because his club might win a trophy in the future. Yeh right!

Only fans of a trophyless club would come out with such nonsense at the end of a season.

Wenger has won the FA cup seven times, I presume more than any manager. He is going to resign
on Wednesday. Year in year out for the past twenty years he has been qualifying for the Champion
league , Arsenal supporters have short memories.

I'm glad he won yesterday and can go out with a trophy.

The Gooners need to be careful about what they wish for.

At least we knew we were going to miss Fergie!

    Why?
Who said anything about forgoing a trophy?
The argument is about being satisfied with what has been achieved, even though it could obviously be better, because it will hopefully give something to build upon for the future. If we'd have won a trophy along with 4th place then we'd obviously have been even happier.
Where does being able to predict the future come into it? Nobody knows what's going to happen, but having hopes of something good is a perfectly reasonable attitude to take.

"I cannot never be as negative as MITO <whistle>

Basically what I am asking is that topical question: As a fan if given the choice would you like to win the FA cup or come 4th in the league?

Not as straightforward as it seems!"

    Stan
    "Win the FA Cup please.

Will you reminisce with your pals in 20 years about the day you finished 4th?"

    Lucaaaaaarse
"Nope, as a one day thing you'd take the cup final every time, but qualifying for the CL with all the money it brings is a springboard to more success."

Inbiscanwetrust (this is the one about how he'd forego a cup as long as he could see into the future)

I asked him more or less the same thing and he just came up with a bit of random c&p in response.
Think he started on the beer too early. :)

I wouldn't say qualifying for CL is more enjoyable or should be what we aspire to achieve (especially over cups).

But I would say that CL qualification is the minimum expectation for big clubs and it's crucial for them to keep progressing.

Big clubs NEED to be in CL for financial reasons, to attract better players etc. It's critical.

    Well not really.

The fact is theres this one country which is doing its best to piss off europe who just happen to have 6 clubs not 4 now fighting at the top for 4 places

They changed the rules to help italy just recently to basically hand then 4 spots... do you think they will hand england 6 spots in the future... i think not.

spain doesn't need 6 spots. can't justify it. same for germany and same for italy... thus there are TOO many clubs in england and somethings got to give.

The only question is which clubs are going to give?

says it all about the state of that league.

Maybe LFC should move to their league?
