What a ridiculous comment. It's nothing to do with lung cancer, they have priced so many people out of smoking they are losing the tax revenue, so they have to keep raising the prices to squeeze every last penny out of smokers, drinkers and any other health excuse the government and associated media buddies wants to propaganda as a reason. I always said it wouldn't stop there and it hasn't now we will have the sugar tax. Then they will want us to stop eating fast food, so then we will all live to a great old age with dementia and pissing our pants. We all got to die sometime, somehow and you got more chance of being killed by some nut in a car than you have by smoking or passive smoking but do we ban cars off the roads for the thousands of deaths they cause every year in the UK, of course not, but i don't hear people whining about that, it's just accepted road kill. the government have gone about social clensing, so i suggest you turn off your tv, stop reading the Daily Malice and let people live their lives how they want, as cancer is a fact of life whether you smoke or not :)

Always at least a quid dearer in petrol stations (supermarket excepted).
They are aggressively taxing them to raise income so they can pretend to give tax cuts in other areas, now they have started on sugar filled drinks because they are a good seller. Next it will be E-Cigs and eventually they will legalise class 3 drugs so they can get taxation from them.,
No government gives a **** about our health, what they want is ways of raising money so they can be seen to give some back (nowhere near as much though), 75% of everything you spend on petrol/diesel is tax, you then also have to pay extra for everything you buy to cover the cost of haulage.
    I wont get into V.A.T

    Just stop smoking.

I love(d) smoking but it's a hobby that you can give up if you really want to.

I gave up when my wife got pregnant as she was a smoker and continuing to smoke while she went through a (difficult) pregnancy seemed unreasonable. I've had a few ciggies on pissed up nights out over the years but can comfortably go months/years without a smoke.

That said, when the kids are set up and they don't really need me anymore then I'm smoking again!

What makes me laugh about people is they get so hung up on smokers, they lose touch with reality. I got more chance of being killed in a public outlet such as an airport terminus or tube station at the moment than any harm that next cig is going to do to me. Actually there's an idea....health taxation on back packs <whistle>

Driving is a necessary risk though, we need to drive to get to places. You can't rely on public transport and it can't cater to everyone's specific needs.

I don't have a problem with people smoking in their own personal spaces but my issue with it is, unlike drinking, your smoke goes everywhere and affects people around you. Its fair enough if you accept the risk of getting cancer through smoking but its unfair to risk other people's health in the process.

I don't ****ing read the daily mail, barely watch tv and I don't ****ing smoke cos I'm not a stupid weak willed gullible **** you knob rash ... get ****ed and wise up you moron, you're the ridiculous one advocating the continued consumption of ***s, fast food and junk ... the holy trinity of ignorance. By carrying on spending your money on the corporate commodity you simply continue to be a capitalist shill lining their pockets and fuelling your own and everybody else's disenfranchisement at the hands of the conglomerates and big business. 'Cancer is a fact of life' is it **** you idiot, take some time to educate yourself around the statistics before sounding off like you know something. As for your point about cars, let me know when they aren't a necessary point of living and maybe we can do something about that right. Fast food, cigarettes, yeah they're very necessary to sustain a person's lifestyle and overall health and standard of living aren't they, yeah they're so ****ing good for it. And I actually agree that the government still wants to rinse you but they want to do that with anything taxable so it's a moot point.

Driving like a moron is similar to smoking around non-smokers. It's risking other people's lives because you are too selfish to show consideration for other people. When people smoke around non smokers they are risking other people's health, not just their own. If people come over to talk to you while you are smoking its fair enough, they've accepted the risk themselves but when you have work colleagues who insist on smoking in the van with non smokers it means you have no physical way of avoiding passive smoking, it ****ing sucks. I think the only person avoiding reality here is you, buddy.

    Well my work is done and i'm off to bed now, but to keep you amused in my absence;

    1. Smoking lowers risk of knee-replacement surgery
While smokers might go broke buying a pack of cigarettes, they can at least save money by avoiding knee-replacement surgery. Surprising results from a new study have revealed that men who smoke had less risk of undergoing total joint replacement surgery than those who never smoked.

    2. Smoking lowers risk of Parkinson's disease
Numerous studies have identified the uncanny inverse relationship between smoking and Parkinson's disease. Long-term smokers are somehow protected against Parkinson's, and it's not because smokers die of other things earlier.

    3. Smoking lowers risk of obesity
Smoking — and, in particular, the nicotine in tobacco smoke — is an appetite suppressant. This has been known for centuries, dating back to indigenous cultures in America in the pre-Columbus era.

    4. Smoking lowers risk of death after some heart attacks
Compared with non-smokers, smokers who have had heart attacks seem to have lower mortality rates and more favorable responses to two kinds of therapy to remove plaque from their arteries: fibrinolytic therapy, which is basically medication; and angioplasty, which removes the plaque by inserting balloons or stents into the arteries.

    5. Smoking helps the heart drug clopidogrel work better
Clopidogrel is a drug used to inhibit blood clots for those patients suffering from coronary artery disease and other circulatory diseasesleading to strokes and heart attacks. Smoking seems to help clopidogrel do its job better.
A study by Korean researchers in the October 2010 issue of the journal Thrombosis Research builds upon work by Harvard researchers published in 2009 that demonstrates the benefit of smoking at least 10 cigarettes a day. It seems that something in cigarette smoke activates certain proteins called cytochromes, which convert clopidogrel into a more active state.
