you probably play better football but look at arsenal. i didn't think there was a side worst at us at defending ( and there probably isn't when it comes to set plays) but you guys are when it comes to general play.

does 5th place get you CL? i really don't have much of an interest in the EL until it reaches the final....i could care if we're 2 points off 5th. fact remains is we're 11 points behind arsenal in 4th with the only team in top half with a minus GD ffs. embarrassing considering we spent over 70m on our defence

Ever since the Europa winner gets a champions league place I would say it the 3rd most important cup behind the champions league and prem.

I agree with both of you, I think you misunderstood what I said. The order of importance

1. Winning Champions League
2. Winning Premier League
3. Winning Europa League

The Europa dropped into complete mediocrity and a channel 5 joke, but the competition is challenging once again and a lot of clubs take it seriously (outside of England) and now the added bonus of qualifying for the Champions League it is massively important and not a burden anymore

 

I'd have taken the EL (or UEFA Cup as it was) over the FA Cup and League Cup without CL qualification.

However, I wouldn't have taken any of the cups over finishing in the top four because CL football is what matters. CL football allows you to build (so long as you don't have planks in charge of transfers) to challenge for bigger and better things.

The fact you can now get CL football by winning the EL just makes it that bit better imo. Teams can't afford to sacrifice their league form and risk missing top four in return for winning the EL, especially with the final being after the season ends. However, if you're doing **** in the league it presents a chance to save the season.

It also gives the nobodies a chance of getting CL football that they wouldn't achieve via playing thirty-eight league games. Any team can we a cup match, but not many can sustain the consistency required in the league.

 

The order of prestige in England is

CL>EPL>Europa>FA Cup>league cup.

But in terms of importance for the club the "Survived in EPL" trophy dwarfs everything above

 

I think that's a good summation.

Europa gets serious once knockout starts.

The groups give it a bad name. The level in last 32 or last 16 is much higher than English clubs want to admit.

The prize money is not enough for them to really try for.

It's a big weekend right now.

1. If Leicester maintain this it will gap them and they've a great chance from here.

2. If Utd fail to beat chelsea that's also going to end van Gaal. But will mean it will be spurs that they are chasing for 4th.

3. Arsenal must win to keep up.
