    Bit of a sweeping statement.

But my point is that good defending is considerably more than just roughing up an opponent. Positioning, reading the game, interception, leadership and good tackling have been used by some of the best defenders in the last decade when the rules of the game have changed very little. So it cant be much to do with leniency that quality is **** at the moment.

Still think forwards get far too much protection. But hey I'm a defender so bound to be biased <laugh>

Good defenders don't need to take out there man as they can win the ball, or position themselves to stop the danger. Good defenders are more likely to pick up cards for cynical actions than dangerous ones IMO.

In the much lower echelons of football that most of us on here who play, probably play in, attackers aren't given anywhere near enough protection and defenders get away with all sorts that would never be allowed in the professional game. Your definitely biased as a defender :p

That third goal for Sunderland was great, especially the ball from a CB lifted perfectly across the box.

I thought Depay was Utds next big thing when they bought him, he can't get a game.

Another example where Kolarov has barely touched Valencia who has fallen over. Ref gave free kick.

Him and Blind are still too upset about Netherlands going out. Need time to recover.

or LVG is annoyed they won't be at the euros and is punishing his Dutch players.

The attacking play has been **** in the utd vs city game. Lots of packing men behind the ball, utd failing to break on the counter, city wasting all there opportunities. De burden failing to put anything decent into the box, sterling getting constantly out muscled, sniederlin is a passenger, mata is too slow and failing to have any impact. Bit of a **** game of football really!
