The art of defending is dying - the PL is at its worst in my opinion. We had the likes of Hyypia, Stam, Rio, Carvalho, Adams.

Trouble is you have talentless thugs like Cattermole who do this just to cause damage to players.

Part of the game to leave your foot in after winning the tackle and roughing the opponent up a bit <ok>

Maradona had to deal with players like the butcher of bilbao in his day. Cattermole is nothing in comparison.

Cattermole has almost ended careers. But I hear what you're saying, i just think the game is about the right balance at the moment. The prem (and european football) is generally just 5hite for defenders currently.

Roy Keane was a world class central midfielder.

    Cattermole is just sh*t.

Probably because defenders are being sent off for a perfectly fair shoulder to shoulder or getting booked for winning the ball but touching the man meaning they have to stand off even more, can't make as many tackles and forwards get to exploit that.

Keane did end someone's career, and on purpose though. Carter ole has never done that as far as I can remember

I agree with that but defending is much more than just tackling. Things like positioning and reading of the game are at a much lower level at the moment.

Maybe so, but that doesn't change the fact that LC Is a crap footballer.

Maybe because growing up defenders get tight to the cf and use strength etc but are now getting penalised for it and having to drop off and learn to defend all over again?

I think its gone a little too soft at the moment. Its not too bad but they could do with being a bit more lenient with hard, but fair, challenges.

To be fair on today's defenders though some attacking players that are out there at the moment you just can't do anything to stop them. Seriously can't do much if Messi, Ronaldo or Bale are running at you 1v1. Attackers these days are stronger, faster and taller.

Didnt say it did, just thought it ironic a united fan who probably loves Keane moaning about a player who 'tried to end careers'
