If today's foul was consistently given as a red people would accept it more. But everyone knows for a fact the next 10 times it happens will not be a red.

I don't think it should be a red at all. The keeper is getting there either way. No scoring opportunity.

****ing contact sport, people need to man up and be stronger. Fletcher should have been stronger and not gone down like a pussy

It being a contact sport doesn't mean fouls don't exist though. And collocini doesn't get anywhere near the ball, but does take his man out.

So? It's common practice that if you're in close proximity to the ball you're allowed to shoulder barge man off the ball. See it all the time when defenders shield the ball out for goal kicks etc.

Agree to disagree on this, didn't see any problem with it at all and you see defenders do that in every game.

Yeh that's what I thought as well.

Game is ruined though as Newcastle were the better side up until then.

I don't think there's any requirement to actually play the ball in a shoulder charge.

Shoulder to shoulder doesn't necessarily mean no foul, all depends on the circumstances

Going shoulder to shoulder with someone is completely different to running straight into an opponent trying to knock them over. It is not the same as the shoulder to shoulder, or shielding of the ball for a goal kick etc you see. Not at all.

Collocini is nowhere near the ball, he has no chance of playing the ball, he just runs straight into fletcher, and for no reason. It was such a stupid decision from the defender.

Indeed we shall have to agree to disagree! :)

Fletcher wasn't going to get to the ball! He wasn't near it either! That is 100% what I'm saying lol which is why it shouldn't be a red...

True <laugh> But I've seen players being eased out of the way often by defenders when the ball is rolling back to the goalie and nothing given. I was under the impression that as long the players were shoulder to shoulder it was a fair challenge.

Just thik games gone soft. defenders arent allowed to tackle anymore (even. If You win the ball you get penalised for 'intent' <doh>) and not allowed to use strength to out muscles your man either now.

Then we wonder why defences aren't as good anymore... Let defenders actually tackle forwards without penalising them for a start.

Yup don't disagree. As long as you're near the ball, shoulder to shoulder to ease defender out the way is fine.

Its ya like getting yor body in front of forward to shield ball back to keeper, you're not playing the ball but just easing man out the way so try can't get there.

The game is better when all the flair players aren't out injured by thugs who can't play football. Defending should be an art form not a form of thuggery.

But the whole free kicks being given even when the ball is won does my head in. If they have won the ball they've managed a good tackle for god sake!

Had that issue this morning. I slid in won the ball and caught the player with follow through. He went moaning that it was dangerous... Won the ball, what happens after that (within reason) is just perfectly legal in my eyes. Thas part of being a defender, allowed to go through your man as long as win the ball first.

Ref agreed and no free kick was given, wound the winger right up <laugh>

    ^This.

^Not this. Going through the man isn't ok because you touched the ball.

Not going through the man first, no, but winning the ball then going through the man is perfectly fine. Or at least it should be.
