I don't like the statistic of comparing results between this season and last season - for it to be relevant, both teams would have to be static which is obviously not the case in football.

The block of 4/2 points a game is useful though and so far, we're on course :D

We won 6 out of 7 corresponding next fixtures last year, I think to compete for the title we would need a similar performance.

irrespective of who we play to win the title will require 90 odd point. thats 9.5 points out of 12 OR in rodgers speak 11.84 = 12 out of 15.

12/15 = 4 wins in 5 games. thats the challenge. win the next 2 and that block of 5 is a success (in rodgers speak) if you want a title. Conversely win one, draw one and you are on 10/15 = 4th place.

all that matters now is that the block of 4 i have gifted you lot.. (and aint bothered with) shows that one loss v city aint the end of the world when you go recover.

thats just perspective being put on games and form but most important of all is performance level and the spurs game was much higher than the city one...

Last season's fixtures is a useful benchmark IMO and also reminds us of the opportunities we have to improve

Teams do change from season to season but they generally stay in the same sort of league position i.e. its very hard to break into the top 7 teams. Whilst not expecting the same results against top half teams (down one point vs city, up 3 vs saints) if you want to win the league then you really need to be looking at beating the bottom half teams home and away. Comparing results to last years fixtures also gives you a better understanding of how you have improved compared to other teams. 6 out of the 7 next games are against lower league teams which we mostly won last year and should be looking to do the same again.

As for the 4 game blocks it works as a guide of a seasons progress, but obviously there are blocks where you might only get 6-9 points, and blocks where you would expect 12 points, so for me the comparison of last years results gives you extra detail on that.

Perhaps there should be another column in the table with last years results from the same fixtures so that a better comparison of where we are at compared to last season.

Yes I agree and have said this previously as well those bottom ten represent 60 points and are bread and butter. No doubt top 5/6 games decide the league and final top 4 positions but really winning those 60 points is the way to go

However game to game we don't play the same sides at the same times so for example if you play Sunderland away in September one year it's not a direct comparison until you play them again and that could be march

Or for example block 1 had two top 6 in it this year and last year there was no top 6 ;)

One game at a time for me. Villa should be interesting given they're a point ahead of us. How the ****'s that happened, by the way? <yikes>

They beat Stoke (with their only shot on target) and Hull and drew with 10-man Newcastle <ok>

Now they have Cleverley.

Estimated point Tally: 57 Points :(

Not very happy.... Should be aiming for 8 points per block at least in order to go for 75+ points. Not a too difficult block either. You could argue we have City away out of the away, but really we should not have lost two games in this block.
