I have had the feeling since November that 4th place may be less than 70 points. The league has had some strange results this year and i see no sign of that changing.

  2. If true then anyone getting to 70pts will get top four, pretty much the point of Astro's (and MITO's) graphs (tables), it shows where we're heading if we continue in the same manner the season as gone so far. They are a way of showing that the miserable start wasn't all doom and gloom. MITO's table inparticular shows you can have a bad patch and still do well, see last years table for an example.

I must say that seeing utd are in 4th on 47 points and only 23 points away form 70... with 12 to go you have just said that one or both of arsneal and utd will fail to get 8 wins out of 12.

I have shown for LFc that by just beating the lower teasm (which you should be doing) that 8 wins is possible.

I have said on many occasion that my mark is 70points +/- 3points. I'm no record quite a bit actually giving that margin which is 73 to 67 points. I fully expect 4th to go for 70 odd point again this year as the season hots up the team who want it most will find their form and deliver the run.

I think personally Utd will be quite happy the FA cup run they have got on means now that win lose or draw they get at least one game a week form now til season's end. (fa cup semi weekend had games scheduled on it every year that get cancelled if a team is in semi) That means utd can have a week prep and focus without a long lay off at any time... i said this about lfc's fa cup run last year.

LFC have two comps to play as do arsenal... they can both if it works out use those as momentum builders if they can... I do expect arsenal to only get a coupel more game though <whistle> but then LFc might only have one more game in the europa... nobody is thinking rationally about besktas yet and talking big about winning the thing.

I think the three clubs will be third/fourth/fifth... I think tottenham are just not quite there, they are getting close but i feel they might just crap out.

If arsenal and utd are in for 3rd and 4th i firmly believe 4th will be 70 points.

  4. I just think its brilliant that after such a **** start to the season where we were not only out of it but Brod was supposedly on the verge of being sacked despite finishing second against all the odds last season (therefore deservinbg a bit of time and patience), that we now find ourselves just two points adrift of fourth with twelve games to go. Plus, everything is in our own hands #luckedout

    very much luck....

after all he bought balotelli and that really should have got him the sack. i suppose 16mil is a tiny fee these days though

We'll see what rodgers does to earn respect when gerrard returns. So far johnson has not gone straight in so we will see.

  6. I felt the fear when I saw Johnson coming on yesterday as I thought he'd go LCB again with Can moving forward. However, he played RWB, a position I've said is made for Glen for years. I thought he did alright when he came on too.

As for Gerrard, I know we're not as good a side when he plays but he has been part of the last sixteen game turnaround and he is the only one able to offer a threat from a freekick too.

I don't know if you're being genuine or not with the lucky comment, hence me ignoring it ;)

If you saw theirry henry and carragher after the game you'd have seen carragher going out of his way to annoy and deny anything henry said. There is a big campaign on by carrgher and redkanpp in particular to make henry look bad every chance they get.... henry said lfc went 5 at the back yesterday.

In fact henry was prob right. we put on moreno for markovic at half time then took off ibe and put on johnson and strung a back 5 out there. I don't think johnson got forward very much at all did he?

In any event... I hope to god i don't see johnson play RWB cos he wont chase back.

  8. I did watch it but can't say I noticed. I don't have or watch Sky sports all the time, I only have and watch it (via a day pass) when Liverpool are on there.

Yeh but that's the bit that doesnt make sense (and I include Diego in that). If it was a simple case of "get to 70 points you get top 4" then any one of 3 teams can say they can do that. And if that's the case then the whole thing becomes a paradox bcos clearly you'll need more than 70 points.

It's like saying "we need 70 points to get top 4 regardless of what anyone else does" without realising the other guy can say exactly the same. They cant all be right and therefore they are all wrong.

  14. Agreed. The tables and graphs aren't set in stone, they are guide when used alongside previous seasons.

As you rightly say, a few of the teams could finish on more than 70pts this season. I don't think they will as I think there are many points still to be dropped. MITO as said we need to win eight and draw two of our last twelve to get 71pts, despite the form we've been in, that is a big ask.

It is a big ask to win the other eight against lower opposition; Burnley (H), Swansea (A), Newcastle (H), Hull (A), WBA (A), QPR (H), Palace (H) and Stoke (A). I suspect we'll drop points somewhere in there. I don't think we'll get a thing against Man city or Chelsea either leaving the games against Arsenal and Man Utd (both must wins for both teams).

Yeh same for Utd and Saints (arsenal nailed on now imo). Not sure about going by previous seasons though. As I said in an earlier post if it was Liverpool, Spurs and Everton I'd be with you all the way. You know 70 pts will likely follow previous seasons as Spurs and Everton flatter to deceive. But this is different. Diego is right in that it's an unusual season but for me, it's unusual bcos those 3 teams are Utd, Livpl and a very good Saints side. I have a horrible feeling it will more likely be a tight finish with at least 2 or maybe all 3 of those teams above 70 and 4th decided by a point or something. Certainly going to be interesting!

My point was that it is quite possible less than 70 points could earn 4th place this season. I think all the teams going for 4th are well capable of dropping 12-15 points over the next 12 games.

Was thinking it would be more like the Gaalacticos to be the biggest points droppers, they are struggling to stay in the top 4, us and Arsenal are on an upward curve while yoonited are crumbling under the pressure, only 4 wins in their last 10 games.<whistle>
