Remember how yesterday Alonso twice went very fast in the first two sectors and then deliberately slowed in the third sector? Well today when he did a 22.1 (which was before his 21.8), I saw tweets from Spanish users at Barcelona saying Alonso was fastest of anyone in the first two sectors but slowed a bit in the third sector. Ferrari are hiding their ultimate pace. Also interesting that Alonso's 21.8 was a 4 lap run (excluding in/outlaps), so his ultimate pace would be at least a 21.4, if not quicker.
Yeah I saw a video of him doing it, but I also saw RBR and McLaren do it as well at other parts of the track.
I doubt any one of the top teams is going flat out through the entire lap... not until final day (or two) of Testing. The "Real" pace setters will reveal their hand come FP1 in Melbourne!
There is no point showing your hand in this test. Mainly because the team's packages for Melbourne will be at next weeks test so if we were to see the true speed of the top teams it will most likely be on the last day of next week.
See how RBR refuse to get even close to the 1:32's? It's like they're refusing to go even as long as the Lotus.
Alonso hiding his pace again: Live timing: 16h 33m - out lap 16h 35m - (88) 16h 36m - 1:24.243 (89) 16h 38m - 1:25.276 (90) etc..
Grosjean completed his race sim - impressive degradation, although he wasn't going nearly as fast as he could have been, proven by the fact that his fastest lap came when he was about a third of the way into his race simulation. Looks like Button just did the first two stints of a race simulation. He's pitted now. EDIT: He stopped because of a red flag.
So the main conclusion to draw so far is that all the teams are hiding their true pace and we have absolutely no idea who's fastest. Only that its probably one of McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari or Lotus...or Mercedes. 68 pages well spent.
I meant, and i think you know I meant, that we're more likely to get a better understanding of who the real front runners are come the first GP rather than speculate during pre-season testing.. But agreed, those that finish towards to the top come Q3 will.. err.. be the quickest
andrewbensonf1 Haven't got all the lap times from runs yet but a snapshot from l24-l54 of Webber and Grosjean's race sims suggests Lotus was faster
