McLaren software cause of problems for F1 teams http://www.yallaf1.com/2013/02/21/m...r&utm_campaign=Feed: Yallaf1com (YallaF1.com) Short part: Red Bull – not McLaren’s closest friends in the paddock – were being the most vocal at the Circuit de Catalunya, saying the new software supplied by the McLaren company was causing frustration. “But I don’t think we were alone in that,” said race engineering chief Andy Damerum. According to Auto Motor und Sport, the problem was so devastating that many teams were operating their cars completely blindly. “It was like the Middle Ages of motor sports,” said the German publication. So pretty much yesterday and the day before gave nothing with regards to times?
Ted Kravitz has been speaking to Sky Sports News during the lunchbreak and here's what he has had to say: "Jenson Button hasn't done too badly, he's currently sixth fastest but times don't really mean anything because teams can be using different fuel loads and different tyres. “So the fastest time of Fernando Alonso’s today was set on the softer quicker tyre, whereas Jenson Button has been using the medium and hard compound. Button has just been doing set up work this morning – there seems to be inherit speed in the McLaren and Jenson will just be wanting to tailor it to his liking between now and the third test.” Ted added that he has been impressed with the performance of Adrian Sutil on his return to a Formula 1 car: “What today’s performance from Sutil has shown is that even after a year away from Formula 1 he is still on the pace. He is solidly in the midfield around the 1:22s, whereas the fastest lap of the day from Alonso is in the 1:21s. “Barcelona is a tough track on the drivers’ necks with lots of high G-force loadings, so this is a tough track for Sutil to come back on. He has obviously kept himself in good shape to come back and be immediately competitive sitting in the midfield and it shows he is a contender for that Force India drive. “The question remains that with his criminal conviction for assault in China over a year ago, whether he will be allowed into a lot of the countries Formula 1 visits. I’ve checked with his manager and the quotes from him are that he has assured Force India that this will not be a problem. We will see if he gets the seat or whether it is Ferrari-supported young driver Jules Bianchi.” Meanwhile, Ted continues to be impressed by the performance of the Red Bulls: "I think Red Bull are looking very comfortable. Whenever we've spoken to their drivers - Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel - they've said that the balance of the car is good, the handling is good, and the sensation they are getting back through their hands is good. So when they are saying that, and we already know they are starting from a pretty good base, I think they have to be considered favourites for the season ahead. "Ferrari will be in there more or less, and today's time confirm that they will be in with a chance, but I still think that Red Bull are the favourites."

Anyone else think its strange that Mclaren are down on laps today? Just seems strange - if it rains tomorrow - this could be JB's only day of decent testing?
They're probably gentle with the tyres but too bloody slow! Although they have big upgrades next week!
Probably not warm enough for them to get an accurate evaluation with their car. Look to be focused more on qualifying than race anyway, they did that earlier on.
Would suggest issues for Jenson getting heat into his tyres? Unusual for him............ No reason not to conduct aero & reliability testing though if there wasn't something else stopping them from running.
Don't know where you got that joke from (this year), but I stopped saying that at Barcelona last year and never said it again. Anybody else who says otherwise is kidding themselves in my opinion.
