...... Johnson, even though he scored 2 goals was not as active in midfield as I have seen before.........

He's only just recovered from injury so he's a bit behind the others in fitness; also, if the others shoulder more of the burden, it frees him to get forward more, which his two headed goals would indicate?

I agree with what you say about Wes yesterday. He was a caricature of .... well, Wes. <ok>

So what did everyone think of todays performance?

I thought it was a good performance overall, we were easily better than the panithinikos in all departments.

I have a lot of questions relating to midfield though, Tettey put in a very good performance and I think a lot of people had written him off but he was bloody effective in a more advanced roll and he tracked back well.

Johnson, even though he scored 2 goals was not as active in midfield as I have seen before.

Wes was plain awful and gave possession away all the time and was haphazard.

Howson was good and determined but for me lacks a bit of creativity we need in that roll.

Fer was excellent when on.

The biggest surprise was Ollson, is he a defender or a pacey cultured winger? He was excellent and then theres Redmond..........he is awesome.......

Loads of good problems for CH to sort out there.

My question over Wes is how good he actually is at reading the game as opposed to reading what Holt is doing.
I wonder if this is why it looks like he has been paired with Hooper as they may play a similar style?

And no Howson didn't play!

Oh right,

We did get there late after the first goal went in so i missed the line ups!

In fact just as we were going up the tunnel to take our seats the first goal went in so missed it! I wonder who the hell I was looking at then?

I was sitting at pitch level and saw snoddy in the first half with rusty and Garrido in the second snoddy was making some good runs but was marked quite well so rusty hardly ever used him. But wheh he did get it he was full of tricks and got some good crosses in.

Also, what happend at the end with Wes? From where I was sitting it looked like a goal, was it offside?

Wes is just Wes. He totally ran the RoI midfield in their last international. Yesterday he just over-elaborated, played too many highly speculative balls and kept giving away possession. <ok>

Were there others making decent movements for him, speculative balls tend to arise because the simple ones are not available.

Wes seems to be getting a mixed set of reviews from what I've heard, he has always been that way though. He takes risks and tries things out but he is unique in his abilities and I have faith in him.

If he scored more goals he would be a truly great player

I read an article about him once about how he was shunned in his early career because he was too small and had he been born Spanish he would probably have gone through to one of their great football factories and made into a true great.

Poor bastard had to take the long way round but he made it to the top.

True, but yesterday I thought the movement was pretty good. Have also to allow for him and Hooper still getting to know one another. A lot of talking between the two of them before Hooper got injured. <ok>

A lot has been said about Jamie Redknapps joke of a predicition for us too go down, Phil Thompson also predicts us to go down but atleast gives a valid reason for it.

This time its Gary Neville's turn, one of the most respected TV pundits and his team to watch is......

Thoughts guys??

Thoughts? How about Gary Neville's own thoughts?

"Do you anticipate the battle against relegation to be as tight as ever?

GN: One thing I did in my first year doing Monday Night Football with Sky, which was a bit naïve of me, was standing up there making a fool of myself predicting who would be relegated. I remember Wigan, with 10 games to go the year before last, and saying they were "gone". Then, all of a sudden, they went on the most incredible run. Last year, because of that memory, you almost think Wigan will get out of it because of what they did the year before, and they ended up going down. You really can make a fool of yourself."

The Guardian, July 2013. <ok>
