Just saw the highlights on Eurosport, got to say what a great show from Magnussen after the disappointment of yesterday, in the last 10 races he has only been off the podium twice. Stunning consistency. Also a word for Da Costa he's now showing some consistency and drove well for two podiums this weekend plus fastest lap today, he and Mangussen deserve to get seats in F1 next year. So piss off Chilton and let someone with talent take your seat!
Before we get too excited about Magnessen etc, don;t forget his father held the record for most wins in a British F3 season (14 wins from 18 races) (at the time it was a proper competitive series), then to everyone's suprise compeltely flunked his F1 opportunity. He deserves his opportunity based so far on his results, but that's no gauranteee he will do better than Max! Both still deserve it more than that russian kid.
Well you have to take into consideration that DAMS were using that paint since 2012 so Kevin did some what have an advantage until the end of this year, plus the McLaren junior program which poops even on the RBR one, getting access to the best simulator, the best trainers and testing old McLaren cars. So is it just raw talent or just because he just had the best people around him? The more I watch the lower series the more and more I see the inequality of it, but Kevin does deserve his chance in F1 as he is by far the most stable and quickest.
I wonder if Renault have an plans in the pipeline to change the formula. 3.5ltr NA engines are going to be somewhat out of place as a training tool for drivers moving to the 1.6ltr turbo hybrids that F1 will be using. Then again GP2 uses 4ltr engines or something I think...
Would make sense for Renault to use their 1.6 F1 turbo units and just turn the turbo's down. Proably be cost effective rather than design totally new units. They could be canny and use them for some developments for their F1 engines, but that of course would no tbe within the spirit of the rules ......
Magnussen has won the championship after another win in the first race in Barcelona. Will Stevens was second with Vandoorne third. If you take out the DSQ Magnussen's last seven races have yielded two wins, three second places and two third places. Quite incredible consistency.
Shocking behaviour in F3:
It really took me by surprise, as far as I'm aware Serralles doesn't have a reputation for being a dirty driver. It's a shame he wasn't banned for the next race. (Incident at 29:50 for those interested).
Formula Renault 3.5 testing tomorrow and Wednesday. As mentioned in another thread, Marciello will be testing with DAMS and Tech1. Lot's of other good talent there. I thought it was odd that Kvyat isn't testing - where is he supposed to go after GP3 then? Red Bull don't usually send their drivers to GP2, even if Horner has a team there. Well this might answer the Kvyat question Forza: http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2013/10/21/daniil-kvyat-gets-toro-rosso-drive-for-2014/ Now this is not confirmed by the team just yet even with those quotes, but if true that's a huge shock. EDIT: See Autosport have confirmed it and there's a thread on it.
Oops, sorry if it didn't start in the right place. Not someone I've come across before, but that looked very deliberate, and the FIA need to start coming down hard on that kind of behaviour, it seems to be worryingly prevalent recently.
It's ok, I saw it live so I knew roughly when it happened. But yes, it looked deliberate and the FIA did exclude him from the final result, but it's a shame they didn't do more.
thanks DH, I sat down and watched the whole of the race. I never really watch F3. Is it me of does the commentator sound like the kind of guy who is going to have a heart attack soon. the long pauses for a breath between sentances..
Formula Renault 3.5 Testing - morning session please log in to view this image Sainz is the fastest. The fastest three rookies are Marciello (6th), Mardenborough (10th) and Gasly (14th).
I like Mardenborough's path to this point Hopefully Marciello gets into FR3.5 as I think the GP2/DTM option is a bit messy.
Fair play to Marciello, presumably the first time he's driven something that powerful? Sirotken in 4th is encouraging for 2014, and presumably RBR think Kyvat is better than Sainz Jr, so he must be good
Formula Renault 3.5 Testing - afternoon session Sainz fastest again but times in the afternoon were generally slower please log in to view this image
Day 2 - FR3.5 testing - morning session Wet track for most of the session, slick tyres in the final hour...and lots of red flags. In the end Will Stevens ended up fastest: please log in to view this image
