When all said and done Wolves are a 'bigger' club more money to pay wages due to the inequities of the parachute payment system plus a larger fan base so they might be able to get Davies and I suppose £500-750K is somewhere close to his market value. You have to remember though that Newspapers are guessing at player values until the transfers go through and often after it's hearsay as the transfer fees are undisclosed. Other rumours 08 Jun 2013 21:37:43 More news about Liam noble of carlisle united! My uncle works at Bristol city ground staff heard his name mentioned through the week there! They are 100 percent looking for a cm and we could get him cheap of carlisle! Been looking at his stats and some clips of him looks a decent young player! Any carlisle fans heard anything about him leaving? Why would Bristol City get him cheaply. 08 Jun 2013 22:05:54 Goal keeper Gary woods will be joining Bristol city on a pre season trial.
09 Jun 2013 08:38:44 Wolves have been linked with Bristol City striker Steve Davies - the initial bid of just over £500k is an opening gambit in the negotiations - City will be looking to at least get back what they paid for him and more Not surprised as KJ tried to sign him when he was manager at Millwall
I had wondered how long it would be before the first rumours of Steve Davies leaving would arrive now that Wolves have apparently made an offer we might find offers arriving from NPC clubs
Kenny overcoat has been interested in Davies for a while, and he is from Liverpool so Wolves would be a hour or so away from his hometown. I like Davies and rate him highly, I have always maintained he could be more affective in a attacking midfield position. But I have never been impressed with Baldock / Davies partnership. So I will have mixed feelings if he leaves. Basso if this happens, I know he has not had many games but he was good, no doubt about that getting him and blooding a younger keeper for a season does not concern me. As to this bollocks about younger players etc, it might happen but I won't hold the club to ransom if they get an experienced keeper or outfield player to bed the youngsters in for a season. I never expected to be going up next season and have maintained we all need to be patient with this rebuild.
If the policy is for 100% youngsters then it's a gamble, you sometimes need some old hearts and experience in your set-up, that is why I think they've offered Louis an extra year, it makes sense..
It isn't such a gamble at 23-24 as at least in the lower leagues 1&2 these players will have played quite a few games it would be more of a gamble in NPC and Prem as players seem to be older breaking into the teams probably because of the number of foreign players ther are in the upper tiers.
09 Jun 2013 11:48:35 Onismor Bhasera to leave Plymouth and sign for Bristol City, Rotherham United or Shrewsbury Town. He's already had talks with all 3 clubs.
Don't like Davies at all, just a slightly taller Brett Pitman.. we overspent on him in the firstplace now we need to get lucky to make a profit on him.. But for 500k, I'd tell wolves to do one.. 900k-1.1m would be a better fee for the club
We paid 750k didn't we? He would be great in league 1. Would be furious if we sale him to a league 1 team. We need to keep him and Baldock, They were both good enough to get 23 goals in the championship together on there debut season, Let them get to know each other more and we could see 35+ in league 1. If we want to progress then we keep hold of our best. As you said lan, He reminds you of a taller Brett Pitman, How did he do in this league last season? 19 goals since January. It's hard to buy that so lets keep it!
If we could replace him with another goal scorer from L1 or L2 I'd sell him he would be on higher wages that someone at say 21-22 and I have no doubt that Pemberton and Burt have a list of candidates for S O'D to run the rule over.
Yes but hawk do you know how hard it will be to find someone who is 21-22 who can score the goals for us at league 1. We have 2 good strikers so I hope we keep them. Obviously if someone offers good money then we should sale but I don't think we need to because we have the players here that can get us back up. Which if it happens nobody would be moaning about their wages.
09 Jun 2013 16:17:30 Bristol city news: albert adomah is joining Cardiff city for £800,000 plus young Cardiff defender ben nugent! Both to sign 3 year deals early next week! This I find improbable as Nugent is not worth close to a million and other teams are talking £1.5M plus for Albert.
Can he score goals at league 1 level? He hasn't proved himself yet. Davies has proved himself at championship level and Baldock has proved himself at league 1 level.
He has scored goals as did Mathieu Mansett but they keep being moved from one loan to another not the best way to develop your skills and get to know your teammates and how they play. They were both highly rated as youngsters shame they got moved from piller to post.
Just checked Hawk. He has scored 3 professional goals..... He may well be good but if we sale Baldock and Davies I don't think he would be the answer and we would be up **** creek
Can't see Ben Nugent leaving Cardiff wasn't he highly rated there? Sorry just googled him, I'm thinking of Ben Turner ain't I?
