RULES

Choose your driver pairing(s) before the deadline.

1. Choose a tier (your first is free)
2. Choose your '+' driver from that tier
3. Choose a '–' driver from the same tier
4. Players from round 11 who don't pick a new driver pairing or buy any add-ons will have their choices from Hungary carried over to Belgium
5. The points scored by your '–' driver will be subtracted from the points scored by your '+' driver to give you your score for the race
6. If you have enough points you may use them to 'buy' a second tier (20 pts each)
6b. If you have more than enough points you may use them to 'buy' a rather smart points booster (see Add-ons thread for info)

HOW DRIVERS SCORE POINTS

You must log in or register to see images

NB. 'Qualifying' points allocations take post-qualifying penalties into account and are therefore based on race start positions. For example, if Massa qualifies in 4th place but receives a five place grid penalty then points will be allocated based on his race start position of 9th. There is therefore a double hit for drivers who receive a penalty resulting from a stewards inquiry. Time penalties: 2 points docked from score and potentially a lower race finish. Grid penalties: 3 points docked from score at current race and a grid drop at the following race.

I take it newbies can join? If so, I'll take Alonso as my + and Schumacher as my -.
Is there anything else i need to do?

Yes, we're happy to take noobs and I think that was part of the reasoning behind moving it out here into the open.

Initially, choosing your + and – drivers is all you can do so yes - that's fine. Hopefully after a race or two you'll pick up enough points to start buying some add-ons.

Liking the revamped look genji. With a million different ways to analyse things, this truly is a game worthy of F1.

Renault engine -20pts
+Raikkonen -Button & KERS -15pts
+Kovalainen -Karthikeyan & KERS -35pts

<ok>

Thanks Genji, a nice remedy for those Olympic blues!

im going to go with
+ Hamilton
- Webber

with KERS and Merc engine
<ok>

Like the off topic format <ok>

As we've gone all Olympian, can we dope test Cosi please, he's so far ahead I'm thinking Belarusian Shotputtress.

I'll keep the usual KK with kers and merc engine please genj, and decide were to lose points later

THE SHARP END

I'm thinking of changing the rules slightly following the summer break.

From the Belgian GP onwards until the WDC is won you will only be able to select drivers who are mathematically able to win the WDC but you'll still have to pick within tier. Carry overs (i.e. where you don't reselect your driver pairing) will be realigned automatically – I'll work out the process for that soon, unless anyone has any suggestions.

Let me know if you're vehemently opposed to this.

Is this still happening Genji?

No, I don't want to do that now, Caesar (but thanks for noticing it): there was no discussion directly following it up but about a fortnight later, in the Euro GP thread, there emerged a feeling that we shouldn't change the rules partway through the season. In retrospect I think it's an excessive way to remove the Karthikeyan effect when the KKK option is available to everyone with the battleground being beyond that.

Unfortunately I forgot about the comment you quoted and didn't go back to delete it.

EDIT: I have now. Do you think it's worth considering introducing it as a rule in 2013?
