Today in 2002 Peter Reid was sacked.

    9 games into the season.

    The 19 points season.

Was it too early into the season or was it a good call?

Holy **** that was 15 years ago. Where has my life gone?

He had just bought in some real dross for good money. In hindsight it seems too early, but the flip side is that it felt a lot like he had lost it, and nothing that he's done since then suggests otherwise. At least this way you get to remember the good times with him. I feel that you probably would have gone down anyway and it would have tainted it more.

Ultimately, his top target needed a bit more budget. Had he got it we'd have brought in Zlatan Ibrahimović instead of Laslandes and we would have been pushing on.

Loved Reidy me.... one of my favourite times at Roker Park was talking to him discussing transfer targets.
He said he was after Brad Freidl but didn't know if he'd be able to secure a work permit and he was in discussions to sign Chrissy Waddle.
He told me that the problem was David Pleat & that he was "A right ****in fanny" <laugh>

I was thinking about this the other day. I'm not concerned that he's failed everywhere else he's been, because I believe that some people are just made for a certain club. Like Eddie Howe at Bournemouth. I'd have Reidy back here. More than any other manager, he gets this club and knows what is required to make it work.

I was sitting in the main entrance of the SOL, around the back of the ticket office, waiting to see the safety officer John Davidson about getting my season ticket back because I'd been banned for trouble at the Bolton game. In walks Peter Reid, I lifted my head and sheepisly said hello, he asked me what I was waiting for and when I told him, he just said crazy little bastard while laughing and walked off into one of the rooms. That's the only interaction I ever had with him. I was only 15/16 at the time.
