Our game is based on posession in midfield and retaining the ball. Out numbering the oposition. with 4 in midfield it will simply not work. We have had the people to play t2 up top for the last 2 or 3 seasons, but no manager has tried it as it doesnt work for us. In the little time Michu was fit last season we didnt play him as a striker alongside bony he played in behind him as a no10. Giving the midfield the numbers to retain posession and also being able to join the striker as the furthest forward. I can see no way we will change a system that has clearly worked for us. I dont get this we have been sussed out, Man city play their same way, Arsenal play their way for the last 20 seasons. Nobody goes on about they have been sussed out. We just keep doing things the way we have done but we have to be better at it. Yes opposition teams know what we do, but they have to be able to do something about it. I do agree we need an alternative. But 95% of what we do next year will be the same or a very siilar formation to what we have done for the last 6 or so years. The difference will be do we play and attacking central3 or a defensive one. Do we play with 3 wingers swapping between the wings and the no. 10 spot. 4-4-2 is antiquated and ecourages lumping it up and the midfield joining them. It is only my opinion though. But you may be right lets see what GM does.
There is no harm in monk trying any combination if he chooses and i agree with that but if it don't work then don't persist with it like laudrup did and go back to what does work for us. You never know until we try what will work and what doesn't.
