Afternoon Girls! Its pissing down here so no choice but to do a bit of n606ing this afternoon listerning to Tony Blackburn's countdown show! That's sheer bloody class and well worth the licence fee on its own! Anyhoo getting back on topic the general feeling is that the EDP and EADT are just local comics that are owned by the same media organisation based in Norwich. They have to sell papers and this kind of stupid crap unfortunately does!
This is true, just can't recall Pinkun ever stooping quite THAT low.....? We're under no illusions, we'll enjoy our time in the premier League - however long that may be.
10 years ago when Town went up the Pinkun/EDP had a countdown to when we would be relegated. I also remember the match anouncer at carrot Rud mentioning us as Scum when reading out the scores. True class up in Norfolk!
Thats the point! When the same media group owns both the daily newspapers in Norfolk and Suffolk along with the Evening papers for Norwich and Ipswich they will keep on trotting out the same garbage about the rival clubs and supporters. Newspapers feed off this tribalism so to curry favour (in their minds) with their readership. Fortunately most sane people in both counties have turned their backs on this garbage that's why newspaper circulation has declined heavily in the last decade or so. Newspapers want to be "relevant" to their readership and they think that by insulting their near rivals this will achieve it!
I wouldn't mind the countdown clock if it had been on here, or any fan site. That's just fan banter, but the media shouldn't be involved in it. Have to say, I don't mind the EDP on the whole, but the Evening News is junk. I always think the local press miss the reality of our rivalry, they seem to try to paint it as some kind of deep hatred. For a small number, that's probably accurate, but those fans are few and far between.
Got to be honest, I didn't like the scoreboard thing, went too far for me. The P.A. guy who played 'Downtown' when Ipswich were relegated though...
Jonah is a great bloke indeed! Just like the rest of my fellow happy band of Ipswich n606ers! Just make sure that CWICK is able to play for the U21's tomorrow night as it looks like they need him!
