There is more good players on the left wing over the seasons than the right .....but their is only one Ryan Giggs IMO...I loved to hate him . respectfully

Can't believe that Fosse (of all people ) is the only one to select one of the finest players to grace the PL, despite him being a gooner.
Bergkamp was a joy to watch. <ok>

    Ignoring the ridiculous United bias......
    Van Der Sar over Schmeichel?!
    Seriously?

Quite simply, anyone who picks a left winger other than Giggs is wrong.....
    For longevity alone.
In this prime he was amazing.
Still regard his goal against Arsenal in the 99 FA cup semi as one of the best goals I have ever seen.
Even though his celebration would get him sent off under todays rules <laugh>

Yes, it's called an opinion. Having watched both, many times, I believe van der Sar to be the superior keeper.

And what's ridiculous about my selection? Playing 4 4 2, that's the best team of the premier league era.

    These players fully deserve a mention;

Alan Shearer. Great striker but never won it and pissed about at his home club, going nowhere, so van Nistlerooy gets the vote.

Vieira (not Vieri ffs!!). Truly great player. Keane was even better.

    Ditto Bergkamp. Cantona was better.

Cole was decent, Irwin was better. Maybe put Irwin at right back to accomodate Cole.

Henry was brilliant but my centre forwards are picked. First the choice off the bench.

Can you really argue with my team?

That's arguable, but its not the completely United team I was more concerned about, it was VDS over Schmeichel. Can't say I agree with at all.
Schmeichel is maybe the best keeper I have ever seen in his prime. Only De Gea, Cech, Buffon and Neuer come close.
Wouldn't put VDS in the same bracket myself. He was a great keeper, but not as good as those guys.

Yeah, of course he did! <doh>

Was thinking more of him spending his prime (wasted) at Newcastle.

He scored a lot of goals for not a great deal in the end, bar home town glory.
People also see Fowler as a great for some reason but he's not even close.

De Gea too soon to be compared to VDS or Schmeichel just yet but I've no doubt he's better than both when it comes to ability.

Perhaps Schmeichel ending up at City and turning out to be a knobhead has clouded my judgement but if you look at their records VDS is his equal, if not better.

I didn't check so might be wrong. This is based on my opinion, not stats.

As for De Gea, the guy is insanely good. Maybe its because he has to work harder than United keepers of old, but the guy has saved you at least a dozen points a season for the last 3 seasons.

i mean how often do goalkeepers get voted player of the season? Almost never!
And he has won united POTY twice in a row hasn't he?

The ONLY real rival to Giggs on the LW is Pires imo. He may not have had the longevity of Giggs, but he was an exceptional winger and for a period of 4 years during his time in the Prem it could be argued he was better. And that is coming from someone who's favourite United player during Fergie's successful era was Giggs.

Anyone not to pick Giggs in their all time PL team, really should give up watching football. He's by far the best winger we've seen. Very similar to Garreard in the view of not having him as a CM in the all time PL team. Plain stupidity.

Not really, Sky. The big advantage Giggs has is his consistency and longevity. But do you say a player that performs to a high standard for 17 years (as a winger) is better than a player who spent 5 years in the same league, but for 4 of those years was better than the chap who had spent 17 years there?

Btw I'm not saying Pires was better, but he was his closest rival and his only rival. Bale achieved less than Pires in the prem.
