A centre midfield of Keane and Vieira wouldn't work. Keane was also too defensive to sit next to Vieira, you would want someone more attack minded, which is why I went with Lamps.
I don't think we will ever agree on who is better between Scholes and Lampard.
I personally think Lampard shades it if I try to be unbias (though unconsciously.......who knows).
They were very similar players, though Lampard's strike rate is slightly better. Both were lauded by pundits, fellow pros and managers, as the best attacking midfielders in the world during their respective primes.
Lampard won FWA player of the year and was runner up for Ballon D'or and FIFA World Player of the year, twice I believe.
Xavi called Scholes "the best central midfielder I have seen in 20 years".

Keane and Gerrard in the middle for me. Whatever Viera could do Gerrard could do and some when it came to attacking. Whatever Lampard could do, Gerrard could do and some defensively.

What Keane could do...no ****er could do...bastard....legend.

    Attack wise, not even close.
Lampards goal scoring record is far better, he is also the PL's second all time highest assist provider.
Gerrard was more of a leader, and far more mobile a player than Lampard. But my team has Vieira for that.
Im going for balance in my midfield. Vieira was better defensively than Gerrard, imo, though not as good going forward.

He wasn't defensive at all, he was the ultimate hard tackling box to box centre midfielder. He became less mobile and more 'holding' towards the end but we're not basing it on that and, let's be honest, don't they all?

If it comes down to a preference for that type between him and Vieira and Vieira is your choice then fair enough I suppose, I accept it and acknowledge that you're wrong.

It's all about opinions and these are obviously biased by familiarity ....

Gareth Bale could easily be in many of the teams in place of Ryan Giggs ... indeed... am surprised to see him not included at all ...

Good point that, Bale would be a very strong left wing rival to Giggs. For a couple of seasons.

But then how do you leave Giggs out, given his was over 15+ seasons?

... you could in theory plat Bale up front or anywhere on the left ...

I'm obviously biased too... so I would also be tempted to have N'Golo Kante in there ... has made the most tackles in Europe for the last two seasons and is also excellent at getting forward ... possibly too early to be in such exalted company admittedly... but he was absolutelp phenomenal for us last season and could, quite conceivably, pick up a second EPL title winners medal this ... work with a Chelsea fan and he is absolutely raving about him ... said he doubted me telling him just how good the little guy was during last season ... but no longer.

@Bodinki you're forgetting the golden rule of a long standing argument Gerrard is better than Scholes who is better than Lampard. There's probably a thread to discuss this. <laugh>

Have to say though that this is one of my fav goals ever...

Manchester United had a team of very good players with a smattering of great players along the way . Other teams had a great player or two with no supporting cast ....well until Man City and Chelsea came along with as much money to keep a team together financally . I'm Surprised players like Pogba , Di Maria and Veron didn't make your squad ..lol

One thing I do agree with with Chief is Van Der Saar over Schmeichel .Van Der Saar was very good with Man U but even better with Fulham .
He was like a defensive general with Fulham , some of his attributes which he had with Fulham were curtailed when he got to Man U imo .
