I can see Ron doing that. The only thing missing from his touchline celebration vs Liverpool was the windmill arm - or did he actually do it and I missed it?
Here are a few pics dedicated to Stoksey.....God bless you Bobby. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
I know this has been debated before but there was a Utd defender just out of camera shot as the ball is passed. I'm convinced he was the one keeping Stokes on-side. Anyway, who cares
I love the 'quote' from Stokes. He was a great little guy but never quite that eloquent! That last photo, with the ball passing Stepney and about to go in the goal - I have it. Its on the wall above my computer as we speak. Its not a photocopy but I have no idea how many were printed off at the time.
It's a good kit, certainly one of the best, but in my opinion, not the best kit. This is the best kit, worn by one of the best Saints teams, in my opinion. Sorry for posting this pic twice [once in another thread], but it's a good one: please log in to view this image The difference a good looking kit makes is tremendous. Even if a team played great football in a bad looking kit, it would be diminished. This team played super football in that kit and were often a joy to watch. Now back to the FA Cup, which the above team didn't win. Except for three of them.
No need to be convinced, he just was. It was ManU and Scotland Captain Martin Buchan. I know that Clive Thomas, that excellent referee from that era, said so at the time, and I believe he also put that moment in his autobiography. Which I read donkey's years ago, and can't quite remember anymore. [PAUSE] And which I've now just bought again on ebay.
People tend to get a bit shorter as they grow into old age, but Lawrie still enough height to be towering.
Have you not noticed Ron's characteristic goal/win celebration yet? I think he did it a couple of times during the Liverpool home game. Two thrust straight arms with fists to the ground, which he then raises. Nobody else does it like Ron.
He's still a giant. Perhaps they made footballers smaller in those days? I was imagining Bobby Stokes trying to out-jump Virgil!!
I went past the statue yesterday and had a look. There is no way someone got up there without a ladder Velcro, even then you would have to have a good head for heights! If we win it again I'll get my ladder and see what I can do.
