Maybe Spurs won't want to let him go.

Can I ask why you have such a downer on Jonjo, when he is getting rave reviews from most pundits out there every week. I agree he had a poor start to the season, but have to say he has stepped up and should be in our starting 11. Just curious as to why you seem to hate (maybe a bit strong) him as a player.

I agree with TLF. Since his last red card his concentration has improved so has his game awareness and he can now last the full 90 minutes He is still young and hopefully will improve even further.

Monk is a young man with an old head on his shoulders who knows exactly what he wants to do and the players he wants next season within a budget that you can bet has already been agreed. He has nearly 12 years of experience at the club and knows the club inside out and better than anyone and that has shown through this season that he know what he is doing. He will have already got in touch with clubs and possible players agents he feels can be the right player for us......What budget the board will give him will determine how many we can afford....Im hoping for at least £30m to play with but i cant see jinx approving that much tbh.

A few months ago, Jonjo going wouldn't have bothered me. Not now, he's really improved of late & has that ability to change a game. Thought he was so controlled & inventive second half Saturday..

Cant see any key players leaving myself, Maybe one or two of the fringe players who ore looking to play more regular .....I expect quite a few will be sent out on loan as monk tends to favour that action...

I'd like to see Leon become a player coach. Personally Carroll should be a no brainier imo. Leon can remain player coach as back up to Cork and Carroll for another season, help 'polish' the potential that Carroll clearly has and can then retire and take a full time coaching role alongside Monk.

As for Rangel, personally I'd like to see him become a player coach too with Naughton and Jazz in front of him next season.

    1) Jonjo does little for me, when (rare) he is subdued as he was v Newcastle he is an asset but too often his head drops, his positioning is all over the place, he bombs forward and ambles back, he stands and waves his arms at players who he has failed to pass to. Too often his short passing is laboured and inaccurate and his long passes owe more to other players turning them into something (Routs & Dyer usually) - compare Wiliams' pass to Dyer v Newcastle which was inch perfect to most of Jonjo's similar attempts which have the wingers readjusting to meet the ball. I just think he is one of those players who has clicked with some fans but IMO 5 minutes of magic doesn't make up for 85 of mayhem. Many pundit see edited highlights and, even at games, seeing his contribution off the ball (not shown on TV) often presents a picture of a play apart from the team. What others think is their concern I can only comment on my opinion. Jonjo is an excuse - he's 23 (older than Siggy was when we had him on loan & the same age as Oliveira who is never referred to as young) and this is his 6th season in senior football and by all accounts he's pretty much the same now as he was four years ago. Liverpool has a fan base that knows its stuff and they couldn't believe we paid for him.
You asked - this is my opinion
    2) Players I think will leave - Tiendalli, Jazz, Bartley, Michu, Taylor (if we sign another left back) plus a handful of our loaned players e.g. Tate, Donnelley. Oliveira & Carroll will return to their clubs (Spurs were talking about Carroll being a £5,000,000 player and I doubt we'd pay that for an understudy - Oliveira £6,000,000 but we could see him extending his loan.
2a) Players I fear will leave Ki - looking for European success during a lull in Korean competitions, Fabianski - could be lured by Roma, Williams - possibly to Liverpool and a big payday if Rogers is under pressure, Montero - not had a good season with injuries and it is rumoured he has a degree of homesickness.

I'd be happy if all our players stayed as long as we strengthen our weaknesses which includes understudies who are good enough to be trusted to slip into their roles when needed.

Agree with VG12 on Leon staying to coach, I'd add Rangel & Williams to that as well - I think it's important to keep our connection with the dark days and the journey through them.

At 23 players are still developing and from the little we've seen of Oliveira he seems to be tactically aware and could develop into a useful player. However £6 million is too much even at todays inflated prices I think half this fee would be more realistic Agree with those you think will leave apart from Taylor and would add Tremmel and Cornell to that list. I don't see any of those you fear will leave actually leaving.

Have to agree with Shelvey being one of the first names on the team sheet. He has a quality to his game that the other midfielders don't. Cork, him and Ki are all different players and work well together.

There's been mention on here of selling Jonjo but I'd be very disappointed if we did. He's one of them players that I can't help but warm to. He's still young and learning so hopefully he can iron out silly things that he can be prone to do. Think he has lately though.

    Charlie Austin anyone?
Agree that we need another winger too but otherwise I'm happy with the team. Played some good stuff Saturday.

Shelvey may have turned a corner, and if he has I for one will be hugely pleased. Monk is almost certainly responsible and well done to both. He received my MotM nominations for his performances against Newcastle & Stoke.
But for the large part of the season Shelvey has not looked like a player we could rely on - frustratingly he was slow in thought and action and his hit and hope passes and attempts on goal were often a wasteful offering up of possession.
This from Josh Kilmister (theswaseaway) more than suggests I was not alone
'Jonjo Shelvey – 8 (Man of the match)
Lazy, irresponsible and a liability. Those are the three words that I used to sum up Jonjo Shelvey after his performance at Liverpool on December 29th, but what a difference a few months (and some stern words from Garry Monk) can make. The first of Jonjo’s two assists really epitomised the player he has become in recent months as he chased a dying ball to the touchline, narrowly kept it in and put in an excellent cross to give Montero his first Swans goal. His physical presence was just one of the factors leading to him getting the nod over Ki against a scrappy Stoke side, but his ability to create something out of nothing definitely proved to be the decisive factor.

As did Garry Monk, 'Monk’s public lambasting of Shelvey as ‘lazy’ and ‘ill-disciplined’ back in December could easily have backfired, but it has had the desired impact with the former Liverpool man’s improved work-rate and diligence clear to see in recent weeks.'

I can only assume the suggestion that we bring Charlie Adam to the club is a wind up.

Tabanou - weren't we too small for him in January?

If you're referring to post 31 on this thread, it says Charlie Austin not Charlie Adam. <ok>
