i go on occasions , got a few friends who goto the Ice Hockey and know some former players . They can fill the place when Sheffield or Nottingham come , but its usually half full . That said i would say its the best atmosphere in any sports event ive been to in our city (sometimes the players will shout back at the fans haha!!)
I went once last November for a change of scenery, but it wasn't for me. And I don't think i'll be back. All I remember was it was the weekend that Rememberance Day fell on & the local Army lads were fundraising there. Other than that I only remember being rather drunk and the stupid music they played, which got rather annoying after every stoppage & goal. Oh and everyone wore ridiculously baggy shirts. I know they're baggy to get over all the body protection, but it looked daft on the spectators. I see in the papers Hull Stingrays get a decent crowd at times, so there's obviously some who like it. Fair enough each to their own. I'm sure it's quite enjoyable if you play it. But I can't skate and i'd get battered.
Really - they get over 3000 fans sometimes? (assuming OLM's capacity comment is true). Im surprised by that.
Having checked, it seems that the seats are reduced for Ice Hockey games and the capacity is actually 2,000. Their average attendance this season is 773. Bizarrely, the postal address for Hull Stingrays is a PO box in Milton Keynes.
Have a look in the old Grammar School near Holy Trinity Church, down stairs is set out like classrooms of old, ink wells in desks and chalkboards. Upstairs has some marvelous Egyptian artifacts (actually first class copies) but also a genuine mummy, the Egyptian theme been rather topical at the moment. Failing that if Holy Trinity has an open day then take a look around, stunning, even more so if you can go on the roof. The last time I was there the pound to get on the roof was excellent value.
