Not enough for me Make it 5 x 100m runs with 15 minute cooldowns and the slowest eliminated each time #tactics
Jackie Joyner-Kersee? She's alive and kicking! Did you mean Florence Griffith Joyner? Gatlin should have got a life ban the second time he was caught cheating. I was ecstatic to see Usain beat that cheating **** yesterday.
10 seconds every 6 months - 4 years isn't much of a spectacle IMO But I don't watch or give a **** so whatever
I love athletics and hate the fact that certain world records and medals over the years have so obviously been achieved through cheating. In the 70's and 80s the Russians and East Germans had drug programmes funded by their governments. The Chinese did it in the 90's when their long distance runners appeared out of nowhere, won ****loads and promptly disappeared again. The women's 100 metres record will stand for years as Flo Jo set it when doped up to the eyeballs. The women's 800 metres record will stand for even longer. This is the creature who set the record in 1983. All that said, I always look forward to the Olympics, the Worlds and the Europeans. I went to an evening session of the athletics during the 2012 Olympics and it was fantastic.
Lucky sod! Went to the athletics in the paralympics and that was good enough. have been tio two of the anniversary events and am definitely intending to apply for the worlds.
I spent three days hitting "Refresh" until I got hold of some tickets. The number of times I thought I had tickets but then got a message saying they were no longer available nearly drove me mad! £590 for two tickets, money well spent. A home Olympics, something that I may never experience again. I'll definitely be applying for the Worlds. The atmosphere in that stadium when a Brit or a Usain is on the track is unbelievable. ****ing joke that West Ham are going to be using it!
Barry Hearn of all people has some great ideas in a radio debate about how to clean up athletics. He says looking at the loss of the momentary of those seconds of glory is wrong look and punish where it hurts. Cold hard cash. 1. X number of athletes from one county test positive in set period of time? Country is banned from Olympics etc. 2. National testing bodies fined for every person they miss or cover up. 3. To compete. Allike athletes sign a contract that states if they are caught drug cheating they are liable for the losses incurred by the real medal winner in earnings, loss of sponsorship etc. That would put it up em!
i do think that some countries like the usa are dirty as ****ing sin. I think the major tournaments catching a drugs cheat should then trigger something for that country that is a good idea yes. I think Yeah guilty til proven innocent is another way to go... prove your innnocence with active drug testing and submission to top of sport.
Just watched the women's 400 metres semi finals. All three were won in a time of around 50 seconds. The final will be won in a time of around 49.5 seconds. The world record was set in 1985 the East German (cheat) Marita Koch who posted a time of 47.6 seconds which beat the previous best of 47.99 set by the monster I posted a picture of earlier in this thread. It's a record that should be scrubbed from the record books, same as the 800 metres.
If ever there was a perfect name for a female athlete who used drugs to make her performances more like a man then it was Koch.
Well as a Kenyan I enjoy athletics as we do win plenty. There are cases of doping being reported but you will find its more prevalent to the less talented lot. We had 150 men who had the required time for Olympics for marathon. There is definitely talent among the few cheats. What is now capturing the country's imagination is that we have won a gold medal in the 400M hurdles. First ever gold under 800M. The guys do not even have any specialist training. We are delving into new disciplines so in 10yrs time we will probably own field and track events. Then there is the Javelin Commonwealth champion Yego. He learnt how to throw the damn thing on YouTube now he may win the final. Amongst all the doping there are some great stories of athletes who are doing great for the sport.
