I left Hull when I was 18 so I don't know many of these places. I did used to go to a disco in Whitefriargate in the late sixties though, 100yds on the left down an alley. Anyone know what that was called?
Kon-Tiki Club, Whitefriargate Another name for ‘Discoteque’, also referred to as Disco Kon Tiki locally. There was later a Kon Tiki suite within Bali Ha`i for functions etc., which some will remember as a separate venue.
got that on post 5 matey - was opposite Manchester Hotel / Trog Bar - Hoffbrauhaus was on the lower floor with Scamps above - if you wanted glassing, go to Scamps - both burnt down years ago on the first night there was no-one staying over in the flat - hmmm
Errr Conflicting views on the location of Monte Carlo Cafe Dr Stanley and Charon seem to disagree whether it was Middleton/Spring Bank or Midland/Anlaby Rd Any deciding votes ( I would guess Anlaby Rd as I sort of thought it was round there ... but not sure why) Cheers
Henry's is. Ye Telstar should be. I copped off with a bird once from there and went back to her flat. It was one of those flats on Bransholme that was above a walk way. I was banging away and there was a banging on the floor anarl. I said what the **** is that banging. "Oh its just my boyfriend dont mind him"!!! He was underneath on the footpath banging with a piece of two by four. I was gonna fuxk off as soon as the deed was done but stayed till about 5 in the morning after it had gone quiet...
remember the Kontiki suite at Bali Hi, damn pawsh that was for functions, lol, can`t say I remember the original though
the one in George Street was originally called Malcolms - there was a dance floor down stairs and a stage upstairs for live bands - remember watching Mott the Hoople there
I was a gold star member of Odysssey. The DJ was called Carl Christian. Real name Carl Plum... We sure do have a lot of fires in Hull dont we...
maybe our 'most famous' DJ was Kelly Vhora at Baileys in the early / mid seventies - appeared on TOTP a few times
Walked past Room the other day, or what used to be Room. It's just been converted into flats. I used to love going in there aged 18.
Remember the Odessey fire. Which also ****ed the short lived and ill-fated Dingwalls did it not? Liked Odessey but loved Dingwalls. Saw Wilco Johnson there about …'83. Beyond sensational. Just beyond it. The guy is a ****ing genius.
