I didn't say you said it mate - - I was just making a comment about Catts and his "reputation" - sorry if that's how it came across - it is a fact that Cattermole gets a harsher treatment than golden boy Stevie G and others of that ilk. The elbow on Welbeck when he was at ours from Gerrard was prime example - carried the same punishmen t as a trip from Catts
Gerrard would get away with murder on the pitch mate, the two footers he used to dive about with every week always went unpunished. I don't think Cattermole has had a bad 2014, yeah he'll pick up yellow cards here and there for nothing challenges but that's the nature of his role. He's going to break up play, as a DM so he'll have to take the odd soft one on the chin, the sleeve tug or the trip, he's a clever player and the majority of those type of yellows are pre-meditated 'one for the team'... that's his job. You can get a crunching tackle by the corner flag going unpunished nowadays, and a slight tug of the sleeve is a yellow all day long for breaking up an opposition attack. The most important aspect is that he's learned, after he's got the first yellow, he's just got to stand back and be careful... the progress this year seems better than ever, it has come with maturity I reckon.
Couldn't put it better myself. He seems to be turning the doubters around - and, to be honest, we need him in our side as he makes us tick. He doesn;t have the armband but christ he's the best captain we've got
that dirty twat who wasn't good enough for Liverpool and now leaves his foot in at stoke, plays midfield and gets away with nigh on murder!!
Souness was an animal. The commentary just shows how much times have changed. It's very rare you see a genuinely bad tackle these days. You used to get several on a weekly basis. Agree that the amount of yellows don't equate to how dirty someone is. Being dirty is all about intent. A lot of people on that top ten list are there cos they are not far away from the top ten appearances list either (some even in it)
Yeah, if you are in the top 10 for appearances but not any where near for yellow cards, what were you doing?!?!
Rooney may well be a decent PL player but he's done **** all at world level, victim, you're talking out your **** pit. He's petulant, a fat scouse Evertonian ****er, pubic, armpit, baldy spot covered granny shagging pissflap. And furthermore, he's captain of the national team who's fans he's publicly admitted to despising. Personally, I can't think of one redeeming feature that bastard has.
He's ****ing brilliant for United though Rooney is one of the best players in the league, the fact that people hate him makes no difference to that fact.
Aye & by United's standards, where are they since Tomato chops went up the elevator? FFS, Rooney's captain of a national side the ignorant **** can't even be bothered to sing the anthem for
He doesn't know the words! He's been outstanding for us for 10 years mate, he isn't perfect. In case you haven't noticed, he's only **** really in the competitions where everybody else is **** as well... he's one of England's all time top scorers, he can't do everything himself, contrary to what people might think! I'd have him at United over any other player in this league and I genuinely mean that, Yaya Toure is the only one who I'd spend longer than 3 seconds debating whether I'd swap.
I usually go along with your threads TT but I think Scholes was very lucky on many occasions when to my mind he should have seen red, same with Stevie G, both great players and this may have influenced some referees. Suarez and Diouf two horrible personalities but not at the same level of nastiness as some others Shawcross, Huth and Adams spring to mind.
Oh no I agree completely, but Scholes' tackles were mistimed as he just seemed inept at tackling, they were very rarely malicious to the point where I'd describe him as a 'dirty player'. Scholes got away with a lot, he was given the benefit of the doubt a lot because of his personality I'd 100% agree with that. Gerrard comes from a breed of CM that perfected the two footed challenge, I think he gets a rough going over for his tackling to be fair but he does do no wrong in the media's eye, which I think is pathetic. Suarez and Diouff for me are dirty players, in every sense of the word, it doesn't stop with physicality, it is prevalent in their characters, the spitting, the racism, the stamping, the diving, the spitting again. I'm not looking at this from just a tackling point of view, but Adam is scum on the pitch, as is Huth, but they don't get much bad press for anything other than their nasty challenges.
hahaha the commentators favourite mantra with Scholes, whitewashing him. He is one of the best midfielders it has been my pleasure to watch. But lets get this straight, a lot of his tackles weren't mistimed, he put himself about intentionally marking his territory.. And to claim that him being inept at tackling as an excuse is just silly. Surely that could be an excuse for every player mentioned. I recall a tackle on an Arsenal player who was giving him the runaround think it may have been Reyes (A player I didn't like. ) and he was lucky not to break his leg.
