I've been going to Priestfield for about as long as you -- with all humility, I can guage the size of the crowd with a degree of accuracy. I felt it was comfortably more than 6796.
There has been some 'history' ( allegedly ) regarding our 'offical' attendances in past years - so it's hardly a tip-off to the tax man.
There has also been some strange 'official' attendances for our previous two home games.
Even if I were to agree with any of your suggestion of the number of empty spaces at today's game - I felt that I needed to point out to gioblues that the Brian Moore stand has a capacity of 3400 - not 2000.

There was absolutely no way there was over 10,000 against Accrington, even the thought of it is ridiculous. Also when I heard today's attendance of 6,796 although it was questionable to a lesser degree it was questionable. I would have guessed 8,000. I think what does not help is when you make a comparison between the two attendances it means we were down practically the equivalent of a full Brian Moore Stand! Oh and up 28 free pies <laugh>

precisely the point I was making - no way was there over 3000 fewer people today compared with the previous home game. I too thought it was just under 8000

alwaysright i said there was 2000 spaces for Gills supporters when they use the away half for away supporters so i am right! Yes the end does hold around 3400 supporters but has never been filled to that capacity even when a match has sold out. Stoke, Aston Villa eg although those should have had over 11000.

ok - you have elaborated on your original statement to make sense of our official ground capacity.
so - how many do you think was inside the ground ? If we are to believe that the attendance was 6796 then that means that more than 40% of Priestfield was empty.
It may be futile to argue the question of the size of the crowd - but why then did Scally announce those silly inflated attendances for the previous home games. If, as suggested it was to try to let Medway Council know that we need a bigger ground because of all of our fans, to suddenly claim the attendance was lower than the real figure will not help his cause.
