Did he? Stevie will win the USPL (or whatever it's called) with the LA Dodgers. He's the best player in da wuuuurld.
Gotta disagree with you there mate. Selling to a rival is almost always a bad idea - the signal it sends out is invariably not balanced by the money. Torres was a prime example - yes Liverpool got a load of cash, but damaged their reputation so badly that all they could find to spend it on in the summer was dross like Downing, Adam and Enrique. I highly doubt we'd have gotten the players we have done over the past couple of years if we'd put up the big neon 'selling club' sign. Also Rooney would have been Chelsea's top scorer (by quite some way) in 2013/14 so the deal would immediately have been seen as a tactical error, regardless of how he has performed in recent years. The money angle also isn't all that clear - there's a strong chance we wouldn't have gotten a full £75m a year from Adidas if we'd sold our biggest shirt seller to a major rival one year earlier. Even a £5m drop per year in that amount would wipe out any short term gains you get from cashing in on a player - Arsenal and Liverpool still lag a long way behind Chelsea in shirt sponsorship because of the perception that they are more likely to sell big name players when the price is right.
There was no way United could sell Rooney to the Chavs a few weeks after Fergie retired. It would have sent out all the wrong messages at the worst time.
Rooney used Chelsea for a new contract at United like Ramos used us for a new contract at Real Madrid. Man Utd never sell our best players to rivals.
