Paul Tisdale has been unveiled as the new Gas boss.

What do you think of that?

His record of bringing young players on is very good, he has a lot of experience at this level and I think he will do a very good job for the Rovers

He's done pretty well everywhere he's been, the style of football is good and he's developed some very good young players. He's a much better appointment than some of the other names mentioned, but it's all down to results so we'll see how things go. We've got a couple of winnable matches coming up, before things get tough, so we'll see if he can get some momentum going. I hope so, and good luck to him.

Yes indeed, he does fit into what we want to do re developing young players. I really hope he’s successful with us and one thing we will definitely be getting is the most stylishly dressed manager in professional football!

I guess we will now see how good (or not) we really are. Optimistic for the rest of the season as I'm sure he will have been well briefed on what is expected and hopefully will work with what we've got, finding a way to bring out the best in them, and not tinker too much. I still think our recruitment has been very good in the main, we have assembled a potentially excellent squad that shouldn't require too much tweaking. It doesn't really matter who's in charge ultimately though, they will be judged purely on results as Gastrnomic says, so lets start on Saturday with a much needed win at Swindon. Wonder where we will be this time next year!

Thanks, but that’s like getting fashion advice from Jeremy Corbyn!

I think this time next year, we will have a different manager. I hope I am wrong but I am slightly underwhelmed by this appointment as we need someone with more experience for L1 and above. Of course he has bags of experience as a manager but that's been in a lower league than us in L2. No doubt he is a good L2 manager but why has he not done anything of note in L1? Maybe he is not good enough for L1. Or Maybe the teams in L1 that he has managed didn't support him enough. Or maybe he was working with L2 players trying to compete in L1 - all of which meant he failed in L1.

So I think this is a gamble appointment. Yes any manager appointment is a gamble but appointing someone who has failed every time in our league is a big gamble. Yes he fits the criteria for what the clubs wants. I understand that. But can he hack it in our league? It will be interesting to see how he goes.

Even though I have my doubts on him, he will get my full support now he is here. We are the first L1 club to gamble on him and we are different to Exeter and MK Dons as our finances are in a good position and we already have a good squad for him to work with and training facilities to help him succeed and our board will support him. Tisdale now has a team which suits him and will support him in this division. This is Tisdale's chance to prove he can hack it and not just a L2 specialist.

Think you have got a fairly decent Manager there even if he was with those up the road from us for a good many years. You have to remember he stayed with Exeter for a long time and they have not really had the resources to go up a league and stay there in their history. That may explain why he has done little in league one. He certainly had an eye for young talent and he made a shed load of money for Exeter in his transfer which basically kept them afloat. We greens have cast an envious eye on their youth set up for a long time now wondering why we didn't get those players and Exeter did.

Going by what Tisdale has said, he won't be selecting the team for the next couple of weeks as will be letting the coaching staff run training and select the team for match days, while he settles in and gets a picture of the players. So if we lose tomorrow, lets bear in mind that its not Tisdale doing.

Wael's letter to the fans regarding appointing Tisdale...

Club President Wael Al Qadi updates supporters on the appointment of Paul Tisdale as the Club's new first-team Manager in his latest open letter...

    Dear Gasheads,

I hope this letter finds you and all your loved ones safe and healthy during these difficult times.

I realise it hasn’t been too long since my last letter but I thought it was only right to update you on the rationale behind what has been a busy few days for us all.

Firstly, I wanted to place on record my personal thanks to Ben for all of the hard work that he did during his time at the club. Ben was unwaveringly determined to succeed and put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes to help make the club successful. He came to us highly recommended and ultimately it was my decision to bring him to the club as part of my wider vision of what we wanted to achieve.

Despite Ben’s best efforts, results and performances weren’t good enough and unfortunately action needed to be taken. A board meeting was therefore called after the Fleetwood game, where the difficult but unanimous decision was taken that a change was required without further delay.

Despite the parting of ways, Ben leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club.

Following Ben’s departure, our focus immediately switched to appointing a new manager that could fit into our strategic vision and help the club and this talented group of players reach their full potential.

As Martyn stated earlier this week and as you may have seen through my most recent updates, we want the club to have a clear identity moving forward of developing young players and playing an attractive brand of football, whilst winning games and continuing to move forwards.

Due to this, our first choice was Paul who we feel has the perfect set of skills to take the club to the next level. Paul’s teams have consistently played attractive football and he has a proven track record in developing young players. Furthermore, Paul has a vast amount of experience and is proven to play an integral part in long-term projects such as ours. He is immensely knowledgeable about the game and also has a close relationship to the club, having started his playing career with the Rovers academy.

We know that there has been much discussion within the supporter base on possible options to come in. However, for us none of the other potential candidates ticked as many boxes as Paul, who we are confident will build on the foundations that have been put in place and enable us to develop something special here. I know that you will all give Paul and his team your full support.

Prior to Paul’s appointment we were delighted that Tommy (100%) Widdrington agreed to take caretaker charge of the team. It was felt at the time that Tommy’s knowledge of the squad and experience was perfectly suited to take the reins until the right candidate was appointed. He leaves the management hot seat after the win over Chelsea (for which he has been fined!) and remains an integral part of the club. Tommy will assist Paul in his initial transition into the role and continue to oversee the football department at the club.

Furthermore, I am delighted to announce that Tommy will be taking up the new role of Director of Football and will be formally joining the board. Martyn, Tom, Karim and I are delighted to welcome him to our executive team to continue the great work he has done since joining the club. I am sure that all our supporters will join me in congratulating Tommy and agree that this is another positive step in our continued progression.

As Paul prepares for his first game tomorrow against Swindon, we are once again reminded of the disappointment that you, the supporters, can’t share what is due to be a special occasion with us. We hope that you will all be joining us to view the game through iFollow and as always we hope to have you back in the stadium as soon as possible.

I’d like to finish by wishing Paul, his back room staff and the team all the best for the rest of the season.

Thanks for all of your support.

    UTG,

    Wael
