So ban parades because people riot at them. Isn't that giving into the thugs?

That would show a good message. If you don't like something throw bricks & petrol bombs at the police and the police will cave in.

It's better than spending £6m quid every year on parades that only disrupt my travelling <grr>. It is money that could be better spent in other areas that would benefit the community as a whole.

But hey, if you have better suggestions do share them with the class.

Let them do their 20 minute walk and learn to accept other cultures do exist on this island.

Remember it costs so much because of the deployment of riot police for days in certain areas.

Not everyone is as tolerant as me. I may not have a problem with the parades (except for the traffic disruptions) but the people who get involved in the rioting will never do that.

That's the whole problem. Neither side will back down but to make any real progress on the issue both sides will need to compromise.

Actually, there's a good point. When you think about it Comhaltas will foot the bill when the Fleadh comes to Derry in 2013. Good suggestion <ok>

Let them parade away to **** on their own patch.

Problem is,they don't want to do that. They want to drag their knuckles through catholic areas to 'put the fenians in their place' bless them.

    Cut out the sectarianism.

The high policing bill is due to riot police being deployed to deal with bricks, burning cars & petrol bombs being hurled at them.

Well I don't think it's 100% certain but Comhaltas are still pushing for it.

You do realise that they have been matching those routes long before there was unionist & nationalist areas.

Would it be acceptable to petrol bomb & brick gay rights parades because you didn't like them?

The parades themselves are inherently sectarian so the problem is on that end. Watch when the OO has to take financial responsibility for their "right to march" the amount of contentious areas they will want to march in will fall rapidly. Keep the marches to yourselves and Ardoyne will feel no need to voice their opposition.

I have to say the best suggestion I have heard is to have the OO take financial responsibility instead of the tax payer footing the bill. I don't think we need to go on.

    Thread finished.

Complaining about sectarianism minutes after being sectarian yourself.<doh>

So the OO should pay the police to protect them from bricks, bottles & petrol bombs!?! <doh>

No, they should take financial responsibility for security at their own events. Comhaltas do as do the GAA, why shouldn't the OO do it?
