Agreed. Liverpool were hardly set up to show Joe Coles qualities under Hodgson and when he got the chance he did show some quality (enough for a second bite of the cherry) and Kenny didn't play him because he found a winning formula with Kuyt, Maxi, Meireles & Lucas - heck even Gerrard is under pressure to perform next season

It could take 2 seasons to get this dross off the wage bill. The people responsible for this debacle are not Hodgson or Rafa...but Hicks and Gillett.I'll tell you why. They needed to bulk the squad up and had to make cheap calculated gambles, because they were signed for so little, they had to be put on sizeable wages, the free ones moreso than the ones we actually paid for.
However things have changed,we can afford to sign players from the middle to the top tier now.So none of these players are needed. So its time to make a clean sweep and get rid of them. There are young hungry players out there itching to be part of the new ''Liverpool project''.There is players already at the club that may and this is just my opinion that would love to get replace this dross in the squad instead of being sent out on loan ie Eccleston,Ince and Amoo.
If we can get rid of all 13 that are unwanted that would be fantastic. That frees up space for new signings and some of the best of the youngsters in the reserves that are itching to be given that chance. Before anyone says a manager can only pick 11 players. They have forgotten to take injuries into account.Injuries are inevitable. And because the likes of Ince,Amoo and Eccleston are still under 21 they don't form part of the 25 man squad, neither does Andre Wisdom.Martin Kelly who is getting close to 21 has just joined the ''English Quota''.Jay Spearing is also part of it at just 22.
A lot of those players that are in that list of 13 are old,and if we can get rid of them, that also brings down the average age which is something that FSG have also insisted on.That list includes Daniel Agger,However if he can stay fit, then he may be spared,It also includes Maxi. He's proved his worth over the last couple of months with his enthusiasm to also be spared. However I reckon Stephen Darby and Soto should be added in their place and shipped out.

I could see FSG paying off the players who won't budge. They might as well. They'll have to pay the wages if they stay anyway and the squad slots are more useful.

I wouldn't mind giving Tubby Joe one more chance to show what he can do, but I wouldn't have a lot of patience so he'd have to hit the ground running.

Wouldn't it be sensible if FSG terminated the contracts of Degen,Jovanovic and Insua and gave them a ''golden handshake'',Okay it may cost them money in the short term, but it would mean they would be off the wage bill indefinitely. How about half the money immediately and then the rest if they didn't find a new club within say 6 months.

spot on. With these players i can see us selling for £1-4m but having to pay the players off a little too. would still be worth it though
