Bidding should start at £15 million pounds But I still maintain we should keep him, unless this sort of money is offered of course.
I haven't actually bothered reading this thread, but did Dai make an arse of himself on the subject again? Proven Premier League striker with a strong track record of scoring goals against the quality sides as well as the weaker ones. Worth £12m every day of the week.
Don't be silly jager, surely they'd be willing to start the bidding at £35 million for a Geordie goal scoring machine
The whole saga is starting to stink of agent involvement to me......he is ours til June 2015 and on a tidy wage. SO >>>>No increase in any contract, assurances he is important to us and the balls in his court. Possible silverware, European competition or.... bench warming in a relagation dogfight with teams who generally play1 up front and have a favoured striker in place already (but a new wage). The mackems hate him and he would have to ursurp Fletcher and their favourite,Wickham. He would only be accepted if he scored a winner against the Toon. DG10 ...... Stay til the summer, enjoy your football in a winning team, learn from the example set by Solskear, Hernandez, Tevez etc and then decide/negotiate....simples
Curt was just asked on talksport what's happening with Graham. his answer was something like "there will be a couple of new players coming in so it will be up to Danny to asses where he stands then and decide from there" I took that as someone is coming in who will be first choice so Graham will have to decide if he's happy with that or if he wants to move on. My guess is that he'll be gone
Oops .... perhaps not the greatest example with hindsight. Sorry , rather excitable last night, I woz
This is an issue that we've always suffered from, and always will suffer from. By playing a formation that utilises a single front man, we essentially double the "reserve keeper" conundrum (which, coincidentally, we need to address. What a number two Tremmel is! Sign him up, Huw!) No player (apart from Sinclair) wants to warm the bench, yet unless there is an injury that is exactly what our number two striker will have to do. It is important to maintain strength in depth within the squad but how do you persuade a proven 27 year old that it's in his best interest to remain with us, and rarely play? Other than chucking loads of cash at him, which we're not likely to do, I'm not sure that we can.
IF, IF, we do win the Capital One Cup, the whole perspective of the situation will change, so Danny might be well advised to sit tight and see what happens. Winning will give us European football, which is an attraction in itself but, the thing to consider, is the huge number of games that we will be facing in that event. In addition to Europe, we will also be involved in the three usual competitions. To cope with all those fixtures, we really will need strength in depth in our squad and a steady rotation system will have to be used. Far from complaining about not getting enough games, I would imagine that many players will be glad of a rest from time to time to recharge their batteries. At that level, players recognise the need for rotation because they will be getting their fair share of games, so complaints about not starting etc will be minimal. If Danny stays, and I hope he will, throughout four competitions, he should play enough games to keep him happy and there will be the additional kudos of European football to whet his appetite - something that applies to all the players. So, it might be (if things work out) that we can offer Danny an exciting future with as many games as he wants but do we want to keep him? Leaving aside any possible personal problems, I would say, yes. I won't rehash his record with us, we all know it, but I believe that a fit and confident Danny Graham is an asset for us. Certainly, the £4 million figure being bandied about for his signature, is derisory and laughable. I repeat what I previously posted. We paid £3.5 million. We are being offered £4 million. This means that one and a half seasons experience of Premier League football, together with close on 20 goals, is being valued at just £500k. Does someone out there think that we are a bunch of idiots in Wales? Given his current hot streak, it is worth £4 million for us to keep him as a potentially lethal striker off the bench. The key to all this, is us winning the CO cup. There's a long way to go before we can realistically begin to believe that but I hope that Danny stays long enough to see the whole thing through.
Connor is still only 19 and what we have seen so far, he's got the potential to be an absolute star in this league. Tottenham and Liverpool werent chasing him for no reason. He is being brought in properly game by game and not being thrown in at the deep end, and its working. Every time he comes on, he seems to be changing the game for us and it is only a matter of time before he becomes a regular. I certainly wouldn't want an average premiership striker (at best), to hinder his progress.
Well, I hope you're right and young Connor goes on to fulfil his potential. You say you don't want Danny Graham to hinder his progress (ever thought that he might well aid his progress?), that's fine with me because I most certainly wouldn't want to sell him for that laughable offer of £4 million. We are trying to be a sustainable football business, not a charity.
I rest my case .....they dont want him (strangely). DG is better off staying than getting drawn into a relegation battle with them.
Relegation battle!.........Now, now Swim, that's a bit below the belt, even if it is true!..... Ivor agree with your post 73, £4 Million is a joke, think we should keep him, though I'm suspecting that he's a ticket to greater things, but I like Danny boy hope he stays, he looks like he's on fire, so clearly he has shaken his personal issues, good on him!..............
Most of the Sunderland fans (or at least the ones on twitter) don't want Danny probably because of this... It's a pic of a Newcastle fanzine's interview with Danny from 2010 that's flying around the social media sites tonight. I hope Danny is with us at the end of the month when we play the Mackems at their gaff
