However, as someone has pointed out on Twitter, theyve recently purchased Townsend and yedlin from us. Could levy be writing some of that off as part of the deal?

Prices have gone nuts along with the amount of money in the game. I've now lost track of where 'value' is in this market.

I think all we can do is trust MP's judgement. He's got more right than wrong, so far anyway.

And, this is all assuming the deal actually happens.

That's the worry, are we now entering an era in which £30m is now the new £10m? It's scary, truly scary.

Fair play to Newcastle though getting almost £60 million for their relegated midfield!

They've brought in 12 players and made a profit of £30M this summer (assuming Sissoko is sold)

If 'Arry was there, Sissoko would be a smokescreen for you bringing in Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose at 10.59pm - "Triffic lads, loads of Champions League experience."

Hurry up and sign someone else. Spurs have only been involved in 5 deals today - is the fax machine broken?

It still doesn't make me feel any more comfortable knowing he still costs £30m one way or another <laugh>.

Nah fair play if he joins, I'll be buzzing to see him in a Spurs shirt as I am with all new signings, if he doesn't... **** him, not worth it anyway <laugh>.

Most of us agree I'm sure. But right now I'll take extra depth, even if he is the wrong player. £30m - just imagine who we could have got for that money before today? <doh>

This perfectly sums up my feelings right now. Sissoko's availability and price tag have been public knowledge since the end of May, yet here we are as per usual buggering around with vast sums of money because we exist in a painfully outdated mentality that deadline day brings bargains. It doesn't, and hasn't for over 5 years now. It brings rip offs. In abundance.
It's not as if we've been chasing him or even a similar player for the whole window. No, this morning was apparently the first time this summer that we've woken up and thought 'bloody hell we look a bit thin through the middle, quick - grab the yellow pages and lets see who's up for grabs'.

We're run like a Sunday league team it is so very sad.

We may well have tried for all sorts.
Surely it works like this: Levy sets a transfer budget; Poch and the scouting staff identify the players they want and how much they value them and then negotiations start.

Correct. But this process isn't allowed to begin until just after tea time on the last day of the window. It's far less fun otherwise.

As you've said, £30m is the new £10m. TV money has sent the market crazy.

Poch will do a great job getting the best out of him, just like he has many others.

Guys, I know this is the Transfer Thread but seeing as everyone's eyes is on here at the moment, can we just take a moment out to recognise this great man, was his final game for Ireland tonight, congrats on an incredible career, Keano! A shame it's been somewhat in the shadows of transfer deadline day.

Terrific player. Always scored pretty much wherever he went. Goals were what Robbie was all about...

So as CK says, sissoko's fee was known for ages. If we wanted him that badly, why not pay the £30m and get him in for preseason?

Danny Murphy's slagging off our activity in the transfer market this summer, demanding to know which of these players will improve the team.

Somebody should probably point out to him that having actual backup in positions where we didn't last season, i.e. for Kane and Dier, we've improved the team...

Someone who doesn't know how we lineup

Spurs already have Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Tom Carroll in the centre of midfield. So if they sign Moussa Sissoko for £30m, where will he play? Who will start, and where?

Alli, Eriksen and, probably, Carroll all play further forward. Sissokko would cover Dembele. Simple.

Yes, but no matter who the manager or DOF is, it's always us scrabbling around the fax machine at 10.59 or limping away having missed out on badly needed talent. It isn't a one-off. We're serial offenders. The only common thread is Levy. If he said "No more last minute ****, Boys!" that would be an end to it.

Everton have quite sensibly pulled out of the deal.

FFS cannot believe we're about to do this. Praying that the fax machine breaks or something. If he does join, I will view him with the same sneering judgementalism as I viewed Adebayor.
