He made a right arse of himself, so his wee buddies came to his defence and tried to make out they were internet detectives because they'd followed your signature, and then, as an attempt to hide his blushes tried to spin it as though you were the one boasting.

What gets me is that he's supposedly a pro. Yet he seems to think that a) I'm going to publish bank statements, statements from money managers, etc, on an Internet forum. And, b) it seems he's quite happy for people to hold £500k in a bank account!?

You are confusing "talking down to" with pointing out when somebody is lying.
You still dont seem to understand what "redact" means. You are happy to brag about "internet wealth" yet when you have the opportunity to show you are not lying you realise you can't and so you pretend you don't understand.
I don't see anything wrong with somebody having £500k in a bank account if they want to buy a house quickly at a good discount for cash. It's a lot better than having nothing anywhere and pretending that you are too precious to publish redacted evidence yet likes to hint at various "internet wealth".
Why would anyone lie? To impress you? Given you've laid your life bare on the internet if someone wanted to impress you they wouldn't go to the bother of inventing an ex pat life in Spain. They'd simply say that they'd won £20 on a scratch card.
At current interest rates, it seems phenomenally poor value and not particularly secure either.
