.............getting that little bit twitchy about injuries?

Now I know its pre season, niggles happen, better safe than sorry and I know crisis is far away, but, I’m still getting that,”Oh not again”, feeling.

Westwood, Brown and Gyan still not been seen because of injuries, fitness or whatever.

O’Shea out for 2 weeks so his pre season is all but over.

I know its only a few players but our two major problems last year revolved around the back 4 and the strikers, 2 of the back 4 are out and the other 2 are coming back from injury and still not fit. A settled back 4 would be a nice thing to have, will we have it?

We have one proven premier striker if we leave Sess out of it, he is the one who is not match fit, injured or both.

We cant just keep on buying players until we find 11 who stay fit, we must find a way of keeping the players we have on the pitch. I know, I know, over reaction maybe but that twitchy feeling is there and I would rather it was not.

Can anyone comfort me and quell my fears?

Syd. I think, with some justification after last season, we are all a bit twitchy when it comes to injuries at the club. However, we have to be a little less nervous and a bit moire realistic.

O Shea has a niggle which Bruce isn't going to risk. By all accounts, he has been told he may as well go back home and see his wife and new baby and finalise his house hunting.

Westwood has a slight injury but nothing that seems to be making the club or the player (if you watch SAFC TV he looks very lively, full of life and relaxed)

Gyan was playing competitive football up until the end of June mate. He needs to be eased back into the fold and apparently the Hibs game and the now hastily arranged Kilmarnock game are going to be Brown and Asamoah's return.

You have to remember, Brown, O Shea and Westwood passed very thorough medicals only 2 weeks or so ago and nothing sinister was revealed then. I know we are all paranoid but I dont think there is any long term reaction here just precautionary measures. If we line up v Liverpool and Brown, O Shea and Gyan are absent, then I may well come over to Coxhoe and start fretting with you mate. Until then, just chill.

Things are fine......................:emoticon-0107-sweat

That will do for me Cest, may have a nap now and catch up on that lost sleep.

You've got me worried now!!

I heard we are apparently re-signing Matty Piper too!! Whatever happened to that lad? Looked a decent prospect.

Talking about injuries was anyone at the match when John Kay paddled of the park on a stetcher. ****ing class! We just dont get injuries like that anymore, just niggles!!

Syd looking for some help here. Trying to organise the reading of any post with the poster at the top of the page and every response following in time order. Tried everything but I am still getting the poster at the bottom of the page and the last comment at the top. Any idea how to put it right

100% this for me.

Whatever happens re: injuries, we can't get on the managers back about it. Sometimes these things just happen, I do think it's partly to do with the level of commitment our last give. They run for every 50/50 ball and go for every 50/50 takle. You look at the players who did not get injured last season (Henderson, Elmo, steed) they are the ones who were nit hard tacklers and did not bust a gut to chase down lost causes. I think the fitness coaches will have learnt from last season and will adapt what they do off the pitch.

I love John Kay

imagine having John Kay, Catts & Kevin Ball in the same team even Vinne Jones would think twice before trying out

Anyone remember when Paul Hardyman kicked John Burridge in the face when he took the penalty that was a classic

you have probably messed something up at the bottom, thread display options.

bottom of this page btw http://www.not606.com/forumdisplay.php/26-Sunderland

The fact of the matter is Bruce does not listen to his fitness team. On a daily basis the squads training is arranged by the fitness team and Bruce overrides their plans because he "obviously" knows better. He is absolutely ignorant towards developments in fitness within the game and then wonders where the injuries come from. Don't be sucked in by the news he reshuffled the back room team to beat the problem. The problem is he still doesn't listen to them and thinks 10 pints and a bag of chips after a game is still the way to go.
Sort it out Bruce and listen to team you employ to deal with that side of the game, Sports Science isn't an episode of Star Trek fat lad.

For me mate Bruce is a touch damned if he does and damned if he doesnt. Personally one of my main critiscisms of Bruce last year was bringing players back too early from injuries and playing important players when clearly burdoned by niggling injuries. For me with the improved squad in terms of quality and numbers he has constructed and especially with it being pre season id prefer caution over risking re: a touch of match practice.
