Good game, absolutely delighted to come away from Hull with 3 points. Good luck for the rest of the season.
Goalkeeping errors have been the story of our season so I suppose it was in keeping. I wasn't expecting much from the game, though again with Robertson out and Chester in our defence looked pretty good. Diame is our main threat and maybe the opposition realise that now.
Fair do's, 1 moment of madness, luck, or brilliance depending on which side you support decide's the game.
Beaten by a better team, Diame looked tired and Aluko just not up to standard, general passing game poor.
Exactly the kind of second-half I expected. Southampton just soaked up whatever we had to offer and hit us on the counter. Wonderful finish for their goal, but as soon as that spell of pressure we had between [roughly] the 10th and 30th minutes ended, it was obvious we weren't going to score. I would've liked to have seen our full-strength team out there today, but what can you do about injuries... I wouldn't mind seeing Brady and Robertson start on the left as left-back and left-winger in a 4-4-2.
Diame I thought looked fine, particularly in the first half. But he can't really do it all himself, he needs help.
94 mins played,Forster shots to save 0, Forster crosses to take 0, slow laborious build up play, sums it up.
Used to be that the player shielding the ball had to be within playing distance ie. a couple of feet but over the years that has got further away to a couple of yards plus the extended arm for good measure.
We could and should have had more. But I will take the one brilliant / lucky goal. You have been very tough to beat this season, so even winning 1-0 is a very good result. Best of luck until we meet again.
Wow, as a Saints fan I am pleased with that. A tough week and thankful for the early goal. Hull had the better of the midfield in the first half, however didn't look like the had much goal threat. Second half Southampton got more possession in midfield as Hull had to change things. Simply looks like Hull are slowly progressing but when injuries occur the depth is not quite there, a bit like us last season. Still looks like Hull will do quite well this season, just keep building!
Agreed. Southampton could have won by 3 goals...missed some clear chances and Jak after his early howler made some good saves. They double teamed Diame and marked him out of the game in the second half. Hernandez had no service, Ben Arfa was ineffective, and Aluko has no peripheral vision and is caught in possession time and again. Hard to pick a MOM this week as no one stood out.
I think we made them look very ordinary in attack without doing much ourselves. Should of been 0-0 with both attacks not up to it today. Good old Jak!
