Some of us have been chatting together for years now but we have never met and in reality know very little about each other. It's a strange situation in many ways and completely new in terms of human relations. I think the worst aspect is the ones that just disappear. In at least 2 cases that I won't name I think we have lost them to the world quite literally. I think there are advantages as well like the range of people we can talk with, many of whom we would never contact in the real world. I don't know where this thread will lead if anywhere but I thought it might be worth putting up to see what people think.
Smart, come back. All is forgiven. It is bizarre , but we reveal much about ourselves through what we say here - more so than when we reveal what we look like, sound like or how we present ourselves when we are constrained by social etiquette or mores, which are so easily set aside through this medium. In ordinary life, I am unlikely to meet, let alone converse regularly with Spurs fans, yet perversely my life is enriched by doing so through the modern equivalent of long distance letter writing
It is sad to think of people you know quite well on here dying and not knowing. Maybe we should send a next of kin list to the mods! I remember when a QPR mod died, his son actually logged on to pass on the news. Lead to some very moving tributes, especially as a few of them had met up to go to the odd game. It is rare that real life comes on to here (part of the appeal if I am honest) but I also remember reading about a Swansea poster who I believe tried to take his own life and I hope that, in a small way, this board helped him cope afterwards.
It would be very strange to meet. We all probably have a mental image of what people look like and I would imagine the reality is very different. Mine is probably influenced by the avatar - does Spurf look like Peter Fonda(?) or David Ginola. I very much think Croydon looks like Bill Hicks (even though he doesn't use it anymore). Quite like to meet Bodanki!
I wouldn't be interested in meeting any of you ****ers. There is another forum I use (to do with cars) and they have regional meets but thats more to do with showing off their vehicles but even that doesn't interest me. I keep online and '' real life '' separate and if me and Spurf met, it may end up in a brawl!
No I won't meet as I prefer to leave you all to my imagination. Boss, we are wan*ers and we know it. You are a wan*er and you don't know it, that makes you a stupid wan*er.
It would be enjoyable to meet up but getting the clan together could be logistically hard. Saying that not impossible . I have . limited time (family,) . I live in rural Sussex 8 miles from Tunbridge Wells I would be happy to host a day get together at my own home say in November but time and distance , numbers may be it,s downfall . It is a genuine offer . I am taking the little ones to a children's festival near the Tower of London soon , so over and out.
I have to say that I've never let my enjoyment of football along with the differing opinions of my fellow Spurs supporters ever get to the point of obsession and threats of violence Boss, that seems very extreme to me. I hope nobody has ever thought of me in such a vein either. I know my views are a little outward but not to the point of violent thoughts towards me I hope. I'd be interested to read what we all think of each other on here though.
Yeah, I'm not sure about GrandSpurs but I'm just going to hope he got sick of talking to us idiots It is weird in a way but like Boss says, it's a bit of another life on here. A meet up might be good but as an astronaut, porn-star, spy that's currently working on a cure for cancer I'm a bit busy at the moment, maybe in a few years. Perhaps it's time for another "what I think you all look like" thread though
A meet up could be a laugh, would be good to put a few faces to names. More often than not I drink in the Bell and Hare before and after matches at the Lane so anyone's welcome to come along for a pint or two. It won't be hard to miss me these days either, the kebabs have taken their toll, usually bearded and accompanied by my Cousins - one who looks like he should be in that stupid Essex program and the other who is often the loudest in the pub and pissed out his tree - plus a bearded Turk who makes us spend too much time at the bar while he tries to chat up the Aussie bar maid.
A bit more difficult for me now too. Last season I was next to someone who was definitely anti Chadli. Could have easily been any one of a number of you guys,
I reckon a meet/piss up would be a cracking laugh! There's a few pubs near the ground that don't get overly busy on match days. Bell & Hare gets pretty rammed doesn't SoS? Don't often use it myself, found a club in Bruce grove where the drinks are served in proper glasses and is very cheap -£2.60 for a pint of lager!! Same as SoS, kebabs (& pies, Indians, fish & chips etc) have taken their toll on me!!
Grandspurs posts on JA. There was a young lad there called RRP who disappeared without trace one day a couple of years ago and most people think he did sadly die as there was no other real explanation for it. There's a group of them on there who meet up regularly and have become good mates.
After signing up to the 606 fantasy league, it was a bit disappointing to see real names- I think the mystery adds to the enjoyment of the forum : after all if YV really is all that he claims it would be quite frightening.
Yeah does get a bit crammed but I tend to stand in the beer garden mostly (especially if the Aussie bar maid isn't working and therefore my mate has no one to chat up lol), it's massive out there and they sell cans and burgers in the hut .
