If he does walk id go for Malky Mackay, knows the championship like the back of his hand and won it last season.

Im starting to get a bad feeling about Poyet, the person who succeeds at Sunderland needs an iron will and never say die attitude. Mackay showed that at Cardiff. Poyet has gone all defeatist.
 
I think that the newspaper is making the most of this, of course he is going to be pissed off. Reading the newspaper article the only common denominator is the older players, O'Shea, Bardsley, Brown, Cattermole most of these are the players that PDC identified as troublesome.

Maybe it was also a case of some level headed old pros who warned that the type of strategy the manager had in mind would not work. The four you mention have been steady level-headed players in the past so maybe the common denominator was PDC.
 
Poyet seems like he's lost the plot to me. He's been rather erratic lately, just watch the interviews. Pressure is getting to him. I think you need an older and calmer manager and say what you want I thought Bruce was a good fit for you. Pulis would have been great for you and kept you up. What's Steve Coppell doing these days, is he retired?

Anyway, I don' think it's vital for SAFC to keep Poyet. He's not convinced me. Maybe there is something wrong in the dressing room, I don't know, but both Brown and O'Shea have won dozens of trophies between them so they know a thing or two about the mentality of a winning football team.

You can't go round saying lets to this one week and change it all up the next.

* The daily mail article has a lot of quotes and it sure sounds like Poyet is convinced somethings wrong. Well hell, pick up the phone and call Steve Bruce and ask him what the problem was. It's as if he's talking like there's an evil ghost stalking the SOL.

The way I see it, your team, much like my own is lacking in spine. Maybe that's due to the boardroom not showing enough ambition but there's not enough ambitious characters in the dressing room. I don't doubt Catts wants to make stuff work, but aside from him, who is there? Maybe O'Shea and Brown, and Bardsley, maybe Johnson? And with us? Tiote. Cabs was ambitous and Ba was and left. Remy is and will leave. The rest? Oh whatever, I'm getting my money, let's jog around a bit anyway, don't want to get hurt now do I.

I really can't remember the last time any of Newcastles back line had a bloodied nose or a cut head. Arms up in air. That's all. And that's what's wrong at both of our clubs.
 
Poyet has been talking alot in the press over the last two days about there being an 'underlying problem' at Sunderland that he is not sure he can sort. Well if thats the case...BLOODY WELL GET OUT !!!!!! Because as Manager these are issues that he should be sorting out and to a certain extent, issues he was brought in to sort after the PDC regime. I have a genuine fear for the future of my club and I dont think Poyets the man to sort it. We need a good solid Manager who knows the Championship inside out to stabalise our club ( someone mentioned Mackay) or before we know it we could be in total freefall. As for this underlying problem Poyet refers to,if indeed it is the old guard ( O Shea,Brown, Bardsley and Cattermole) then they need to be turfed out..Theyve proven not to be enough or to have had the heart to play for our club

Man United winning trophies had sweet fa to do with oshea or brown. Luke Chadwick has more premier league winners medals than Steven Gerrard.

The only reason oshea gets picked is because he got carried to trophey wins by being In a good squad where he filled the numbers. I genuinely think there's better footballers playing 5 aside on a sunday morning. Can't wait till he's gone but have an awful feeling we have another year of Oshit to suffer.
 
If he can't sort it (or want to sort it!) then it says more about him and (IMO) his lack of bottle. He's not untouchable and his style of football is nice to watch (for a side who are a comfortable mid table team) not a relegation battling side who need characters and fighters who realise the position they are in. I have nothing against Gus (his selection and the players he brought in haven't excited to many) but I thought the man we needed after PDC was Pullis I always thought he would bring stability and would of liked to have seen what he could of done if backed up with cash. But it wasn't to be so we need to move on with or without Gus, such is life as a SAFC fan.

I wasn't implying JOS and WB are the reason ManU were successful. Rather they prove you can be a longterm member of a very successful squad while being a rather mediocre footballer, as well as walking into your respective international side.

My point was that both of them know what it feels like to be part of a well run club and a well managed squad and due to that they're somehow just pulling in a different direction when stuff is done differently (by the current manager) than what they're used to. Whether malice on their part is involved or whether they're still somewhat helping the cause we could speculate all day long about.

Swapping out both senior central defenders at once is a pretty risky manoeuvre to undertake. But if you're ever going to attempt it, better do it after/while being relegated. It sure seems to me like either of them won't accept being dropped. Gus seemed dead set on selling or loaning out Cattermole in January while now he's back to relying on him to hold the team together, indicating he's changed his mind about Cattermole?

Ideally, you want to get rid of JOS and keep Brown for another season or two alongside a younger solid prospect and then when you come back up go out and invest a serious amount of money in a player who can organise and lead a the defensive line.

But I don't think anyone is going to take JOS off your hands, maybe some promoted team, and he probably won't leave either but expect a pay off.
 
Although I want him to stay and think we need to stop just changing managers at the drop of a hat, I get the distinct feeling that he will not be our manager next season. I think these articles although journalist made, are very much manager driven. I think Poyet is laying the way for his departure and would not be surprised if it happened sometime very quickly in May, after the final game. I would also not at all be surprised if that preceded the announcement of Short going too.

I fear a massive turmoil at my club in the coming weeks but if we emerge about the other end with a rank and file clear out then it will be for the better. However, I'd sooner do this in the top flight as I also fear a few seasons in the lowest leagues now as we rebuild.
 
I echo the thoughts of the many who call into question his mentality, his leadership, given the towel throwing after the Spurs game followed by a statement that he 'doesn't know if he can fix' issues, issues which are well known to be with players who as a whole will be leaving regardless.

I'm comfortable with him staying, but if he does go, as said above someone like a McLaren, a Pulis, someone thick skinned and determined, that's what's needed.

Let's stop thinking we are anything other than what we are, and get a manager who can rebuild our identity as Sunderland, IF Gus decides to go.

If he goes, then it's no loss at all, cos he's a pussy. If he stays, well maybe just maybe it shows he's got the teeth for the battle next season.
 
I never heard Gus "throw in the towel". Simply stated that would be miraculous for Sunderland to stay up. Something we all said after the Norwich game. Doesn't make him a bad manager for saying it'd need a,miracle. 7 points, when you have games against Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd to play is miracle country. We still need 4 wins with 3 "winnable" (hahaha) home games. We won't win them. Reckon we'll be down by the ttime we play west brom

Does he want sacking?

He should be saying things like, no matter which league we are in next season its a new dawn and we'll be raring to go with a fresh squad and the rotten core a thing of the past.

Sounds like hes after his compo.
