That's one way of stating that you can't disagree more with Barton's exclusive take.

You could say that the best defenders change matches by 'not' doing things, or by preventing others from doing things.

well barton is obviously wrong to exclude a keeper like neuer or can a keeper never be "world class" ? GOt me he is the best by a mile

however after that i would only put lahm in the world class category for defenders as most out there are very good but when i think back to real world class defenders they don't compare.

I see world class as if Aliens landed on earth and wanted to play our best 11 players at football for the fate of our planet, these players would be picked

I don't think there's any such thing as world class!

It's a meaningless statement if it can't be defined with any agreement.

The definition of World Class isn't too hard to fathom. It's the best players in the world that play at a constantly high level, more than the majority. These players have to include all positions and not just forwards. Just the top of my head, the following players would be regarded as World Class in the Prem at the moment:

    Suarez
    Yaya
    Ozil
    Kompany
    Ramirez
    Silva

This is not the most complete list but an example. The Prem has less World level players than say Spain, which has a larger pool of players.

We all know the best person to ask regarding Inter-planetary, football based invasions and diplomacy is Joey Barton.
Also, Joey Barton did not present Joey Barton in Joey Barton's list of World class players.

I had a feeling someone would say that. Ramirez has been Chelsea's best and most consistent performer when he has played. He is also a full Brazilian International and will play for their first 11 for Brazil in this years world cup. He may not be one of the glamour players in the league or world football, but in his position, he is very effective and belongs with the very best. He was outstanding in the Champions League when Chelsea won it last.

Given that Joey Barton's comments started this thread, it's appropriate you have chosen such a nasty piece of work as a world class player.

    World Class players eh?

The top 1% of players would be a fair description of world class players.

Anyone who thinks there are just 4 world class players is a moron though.

neuer, De Gea, Thiago Silva, Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Rooney, Van Persie, Yaya, Schweinsteiger, Kroos..... cant be arsed thinking of any more. But players of that ilk. Some are better than others like Ronaldo and Messi but all are world class footballers.

Rooney and De Gea are not world class mate. Rooney is a top player, no doubt but he;s been overhyped by English media. Put him next to Suarez (a similar type of player) and you can see the gulf in class.

Again, De Gea is a very good player and I think he will become world class - once he establishes more command of his box and impose himself.

This isn't bias against Utd as I do agree with RVP's inclusion.
