He definitely helped his case for remaining part of our forward setup, regardless of the opposition. Very tidy control and finishes for both goals in torrid conditions where everyone was struggling to stay on their feet. Jelavic and Long will be ahead of him but we all know two strikers won't stay fit for every match.

Jelavic, Long, Sagbo, Aluko and Fryatt as 5 options up front assuming we drop Graham. All offer something different.

I'd say today might just persuade Bruce not to sell him this January.

Brucie just said on RH that he would like to keep all his good players and that he was also impressed with Matty so would not be at all surprised if we try keeping him

No

yes he did a good job against league 2 opposition.
can he do that against PL opposition??
I'm not convinced.
but hey lets's pick him cos of sentiment - it's not like we're in a relegation dog fight are we?
oh wait a minute..............

Go on, say it again: he's League One at best and couldn't cut it at Championship level.

Muppet.

Patty, I don't think sentiment comes into it really... does it? He was a top scorer in the championship for us, had a long term injury and still - after a couple of good spells on loan - coming back. I'd keep him because he is a natural goalscorer if he gets the service, and we simply cannot (well hopefully not) going to fork out the sort of money for another goalscorer. He's back up, but a useful back up at least until the end of the season. So, I see your point, but I'd say not 'sentiment', but perhaps pragmatism mixed with a bit of economics!

I would have said more practicality than sentiment. Our championship top scorer (twice) is bound to be a useful backup player.

As I stated on the match thread, today was about comparing Fryatt to Graham to see who should stay in the squad. Surely everyone would prefer to keep Fryatt over Graham?

I hear what you are saying, we have been without a striker for so long, I honestly feel that some of you have forgotten what it was like to have one.
We now have 2 top drawer strikers!
Fryatt did a job in the championship, he did the job required of him - but frustratingly he missed more sitters than he put away.
