I accept your opinion and respect and I have been drinking. Love you Joe.

Gervais is very funny, but his fascination with God is tedious now, like 90% of his tweets are about God or religion.... like, okay, I get it, you're an atheist, fair enough, but give it a rest. Karl Pilkington is my hero and Clive Warren is my favourite actor :p

Agreed, he is a bit like Dawkins in the way he pokes fun at religion unnecessarily at times. I don't think it's a battle that's worth fighting.

Is that like 90% of your tweets are sending unsuspecting young girls pictures of your smouldering eyes?

To be honest, my eyes are ****ing amazing. Beautiful eyes. No one has better eyes than mine, but don't mean that in a Narcissist way, just factual. I'm a 7/10 imo. Young girls like my weird personality I think... :)

This is a really rotten forum to be banned from. I say it in that way because if I was a reasonable person [and I am, I believe], and I'd been so stupid as to mess up that badly as to get myself banned from it, after I'd known that I really enjoyed being here, I'd probably continually remind myself of how good it was here by popping back to read posts from the very reasonable people that are on this forum. And I'd think, why was I so bloody stupid to get myself banned from the very place I love being at..? Of course, one should never go back fully because one can't. I read of the odd occasional ex-member who'll start off a conversation about this place once they've found a forum elsewhere. I've read other forum's members calling us gay or ghey [correct me if I'm wrong but I'm assuming it isn't meant as praise], banal, humourless, no fun, rigid, and several other things meant in a derogatory way. Yet people like it here and it's probably because we generally get along. The magic formula is staying within the rules. Those who starkly stray out of them, or continually bend them so badly, despite the warnings and calls to rein it in, get banned and stay banned.

love

Overly smug, in my opinion. I don't find his delivery funny. I know I'm supposed to, but I don't. The peculiar thing is everyone, without exception, that I happen to know personally also finds him unfunny. Who do you find funny [?] has been a topic of conversation around the table with close friends only in the last month.

Must be a generation thing with him.

I don't think it's necessarily a generation thing, I don't find him funny either, personally, nor do several people I know.

Ummm....without wanting to sound like a twat (yet probably failing), I know Al a bit and he's genuinely on if the brightest, most erudite and funniest people I know. In terms of well observed stand up, i personally think only Tim Minchin these days tops him. Bill Bailey is fantastic live too, though has lost a bit of edge the last couple of times I've seen him (like Eddie Izzard has too). Apparently his new material is excellent though.

Much like music, is best when seen live...

On Tim Minchin, I think he's very good, but the whole thing around me confuses him a bit. I saw him live, having only a vague understanding of his works, intentionally. About half the people I was with knew all of his songs already, the other half (including me) knew about him and what he does, but were certainly not experts in his catalogue. It seemed like the half of us who didn't know any of his works were genuinely laughing, while the other half were just playing along, which was what I expected - if you know his songs, how can you find them funny after hearing them so many times? If you watch a stand up's routine twenty times, surely knowing every single joke means they're not funny when they come along?

Agreed Dan, he needs to constantly reinvent with the songs - there's a pleasure (like with a band) in hearing your favourite tracks, but the real laughs come in hearing the stuff you don't know. I've not seen Matilda on stage (that he did the music for) but by all accounts that's brilliant too.

I used to despise Ricky Gervais, then i started watching his shows like the office, the Ricky Gervais show and best of all his old radio podcasts! After that i started to love him! (back to those podcasts its the source of all the stuff for the RG show so it is Ricky Gervais, Karl Pilkington and Stephen Merchant all chatting, there is hours and hours of this stuff and it is bloody hilarious! Watch it all the time at university, highly recommend it) But the one thing i do not like about him is his stance on religion. I personally hate atheists who shove their ideas down your throat just as much as religious people who do the same. I respect people who believe what they want to believe and leave it at that. But i still like the guy!

On other comedies, i am pretty unoriginal, i like most of the big names, Bill Baily (?) has some good old stuff, Lee Evans can be funny at times, but can also be terrible. Oh Regginal D Hunter (?) is verry funny too, but he will get worse as all he talks about is England vs America.

Blimey, it really hits home how much hype and twaddle there is out there when you see/hear it done in a language you don't understand [Yes, my fault. What I need is a David Salas clone]. Yes, I'm referring to the presentation of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid

Get it over and done with, Real..! On the other hand, if you pay £85M for someone who can kick a ball around better than most, you're entitled to make a song and dance about it, I suppose. :)

Never liked The Office. Gervais comes across as a massive twat.

He's supposed to come across as a massive twat in The Office.

Any love for An Idiot Abroad here? I thought that was damn fine programming.

I ment in real life and yeah I liked An Idiot Abroad. But even in that Gervais annoyed me.

I do quite like Gervais and I'm a fan of an Idiot Abroad, but has anyone seen 'the Invention of Lying'? Probably one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Yeah, that was terrible. A concept which could have worked, and it did for the first few minutes, but then it basically became an atheist propaganda film. I would have stopped watching had I not been on a plane at the time without anything else to do.

Eddie Mitchell has sold the rest of his shares in Bournemouth to Max Denim. No more drunken rants anymore then.

Yeah, why is it that airlines always show crap films on planes? They're mostly un-funny rom coms.
