    Cons:
Very ugly football in the first half, played into West Ham's hands.
    Very little going forward.
Poor marking for the second goal.

    Pros:
Declan John had a very good game. Looks promising.
When we started passing the ball around (in the second half) West Ham couldn't get near us.
Fraizer Campbell giving Medel a hand with the Ayatollah.

    Summary:
Nobody really had a bad game. West ham were a lot more clinical (as expected) but if we played like we did in the second half, as opposed to the first half of tennis, I can't see us getting relegated. It's a bit naïve to say that after 1 game, but we still have Cornelius to come back from injury and hopefully a new winger.

    Exciting times <ok>

And one of the most exciting things is not having to stay up 'til stupid o'clock to watch clown Claridge on the Football (blink and you miss your team) League Show! ;)

Can't see you getting relegated either matey - easily three teams (at least) you're better than!

Enjoy the ride and good luck!

The thing that makes a big difference in the PL is that you give strikers too much space then more often than not you they will make it pay. Always good to get the first game out of the way though.

Arwr, you seem decent enough, unfortunately a few of yours have an agenda as you can see.

I know it's only one game but what do you make of the difference between the Prem and the championship ?

FFS Johny - I am trying to show a little respect but you still behave like a bitter little boy who has lost all his toys! I know you hate everything that is Swansea but please desist from the pathetic little snipes when I try to offer encouragement to the many decent Cardiff posters on here!

Understand that you hate me because I was born outside of 'the metropolis you call home'! But I post on here for sensible debate - I have no issues with Cardiff, have some old and valued mates from your neck of the woods, and they would be embarrassed by your hatred! So please don't PM me again asking for favours - have given up trying to help you in your sad little crusade! So grow up and appreciate the fact that not everyone outside of your comfort zone is the enemy!

Support your team by all means, but don't denigrate all those that don't share your blinkered view of the world - there is a whole wide world outside of your 'metropolis' and some of the people that reside there are actually quite decent! So grow a pair mate and admit that not everyone outside of Cardiff are the scum you think they are! <cheers>

I might be stating the obvious and like you said I can only judge on the one game but; it's a lot more unforgiving. Obviously the standard of everything is higher (i.e. passing, dribbling, shooting etc.) but I didn't find it faster like a lot of people said it would be. Players are shown a lot more respect in the Premiership for obvious reasons, which means there is more time on the ball than in the championship, but the standard of defending is higher so the player on the ball has to be more skilful and intelligent.

I still don't think there is that much difference between the top 6 (ish) in the championship and the bottom half of the premiership. I remember Dave Jones saying that there are 5 categories that you look for in a player (I've forgotten what they were) and if a player has at least 3 of them they will be quickly snapped up by prem teams, though there were a few of them playing in the championship. Hence why some players can make the step up to "The Big League", much like Lambert has for Southampton.

As a final note: I would say that the Premiership relies more on the individual skill of players, where as the Championship can be conquered with average players that play very well as a team. Not that I'm saying the Cardiff players are average, but we are going to need more than just the team work and hard graft that we used last season.

Like I said most of it is quite obvious. But maybe someone with a more tactically astute mind can describe it better than me.

Sorry Gransha - but John asked for my help a week ago and I acquiesced in good faith! Thought that maybe he would be grateful but have had nothing but bile from him since! I apologise if I have crossed a line, but have nothing but respect for the decent Cardiff posters on here!

welcome to the premiership Cardiff, you will be fine come what may, first year is a learning curve, you will dominate games in this league and still lose some games, it will probably take 6 games to get use to it, take a leaf out of swanseas books

    Cartoon,

If you and John have private messages between yourselves then they are private.

If you are unhappy about his gratitude then explain that to him in private, please don't bring your bitterness onto our board.

You know that there is more than enough bitterness from the swans already without adding to it.

    Cheers

    Dave

And I thought this was all destined to stop once the season started...

Does anyone know if MotD is repeated? Fell asleep and missed te game, if not iPlayer it is for me!

Not surprised at the score mind. West Ham away was always going to be difficult, but hey we've got the slightly easier game next... Wait that's also wrong...

Can I have the championship back?

Motd is repeated at 8.35am ( if you're awake). I believe that it's also going to be available on Iplayer too.

I think that's a very good appraisal there. No switching off in the Prem not even for a second and also mistakes are punished where as sometimes in the leagues below you can get away with them.

Just watched us on SNF. A very slow start with times when it looked like school boy football with groups of players round the ball like wasps round a jam jar.

Medel neat and tidy, John looked confortable and Kimbo and Bellamy looked to be on the same wavelength much of the time. Thought campbell looked as if he could be an important player for us this season, lloking quite sharp but not seeing enough quality ball.

On the negative, most of the pressure came down our right. Connolley didn't look comfortable and was indecisive at times, ending up in the CB spot and leaving the WH wide men free. Caulker looked good, but a couple of times we ended up under pressure because he played the ball forward and kept going, ending up 3/4 the way up the field on the right touch line.

2nd Half much better than the first but it will be a long old season if we don't sort our shape out. When the team was announced I wasn't sure what formation we'd be playing as there was little natural width. It looked as if MM wanted the attaching players to be quite fluid which costs us when we lost the ball as the shape seemed to go. We didn't naturally drop into two banks with structure. It's that reaction and quickly dropping into formation that takes the pressure off.

    A real learning experience.

Would rather Hudson to either caulker or turner based on yesterday's result

I think your all being too harsh on the players. It was our first game after all. Nobody can really expect much from the next few games, so it gives our players a chance to get to know each other without having to be too worried about the result.

That's the way I see it anyway.
