This is what I said too. I think a £40m bid would really tempt them, and as you mention, they don't want to sell to their rivals so we would prove to be a better option. The sticking point might be Lewandowski himself though if he's got his heart set on Bayern
Moving from Dortmund to Arsenal would be a step down. Why would he want to join us? Chelsea, United and Madrid have all come in for him and he has stayed at Dortmund. For one reason or another, he has his heart set on Bayern, so much so that he is willing to give Dortmund 1 more year just to get there. Going after him would be a massive waste of time.
Good news and something that would benefit Gustavo. It's a World cup year, Arsenal are a big club that is led by a well known, proper footballing manager. It's a position that we very much need filling since Song left, and with a long tough season ahead of us, we need a dedicated DM in that position, especially when we look a little dodgy with injuries at the back. Win win situation for us and him.
Yup, the truth hurts, but truth it is. We need to stop dreaming about Lewandowski. It is never gonna happen.
Hope we get Gustavo, it's all there for us to take, reasonable price, he wants to come to us, Bayern don't need him and want to sell if possible, let's go.
I ****ing love "Sky Sources" ESPN & SKY have probably picked up the story from the same agency as the Grauniad http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/aug/12/arsenal-luiz-gustavo-bayern-munich
His agent is going to say that every club is in for him to try and push up the price, but as I understand it we are in negotiations with Bayern and Gustavo has indicated that he'd like to play for Arsenal. I don't think the Napoli issue would have much bearing on this story if it wasn't for the Higuian debacle, which having seen him play at the Emirates cup, looks like we have avoided an expensive mistake.
Apparently Brendan Rogers has demanded that Gustavo apologise for wanting to join Arsenal and for saying good things about them....only Liverpool are a big club (who do things with class).
