Nice one roller, I have not been abroad for 8 years and dont miss it at all Did you visit Ventnor while you were there or the zoo down the road
We didn't have time Andy. We went two or three years ago and went to the Tiger Sanctuary in Sandown then .We went there because we'd been on our first holidays together many, many, many years ago. The weather was so good it was ridiculous. The walk down to the beach was tough, the walk back shattering. I had been recommended a fish restaurant in Ventor, but we didn't have time to get there. Maybe next time, as there will be one, I think we have had more holidays there than anywhere else. Strangely enough I always think of the drive to Ventnor when I hear Ziggy Stardust, I guess I had it playing one time when I drove that way.
What a brilliantly timed thread Uber ! I too am off to Menorca in 3 weeks time having never been before. I'm told its quiet and ideal for young kids (mine are 18 months and 3). We're going All Inclusive in Cala Bosch as I think all inclusive is the only way to go with the kids (unlimited ice cream soft drinks etc) and also a few vinos for me and The Wife on the balcony once they're in bed! I believe there is a good water park on the island and we will be hiring a car for a couple of days over there. Would be most interested to hear how you go on and any recommendations you may have on your return. Cheers mate and happy holidays
I'm off to Lake Vinuella in Spain in a couple of weeks. We've rented a villa for the week to just relax and take it easy. In fact you can take a look at it here. http://www.andalucianvillarentals.co.uk/holiday-homes-andalucia/2755/belmonte-(3) We also went to Florida back in May for two weeks, where both of my daughters and Mrs Nines all celebrated their birthdays. I'm not sure when I'll be off again as I've been financially cleaned out. Uber, which resort are you residing in Menorca?
Just back Uber....had a few days in Holland followed by a road trip in Germany taking in the Star Wars Celebration Europe (Essen) for my son but did get to Dortmund (v Munich) and had a stadium visit to Ajax...well you'd have to! German beer is pretty cheap too.
Jamaica about2 months ago, and Belize in just over a month. Thankfully, air fairs are pretty cheap from Houston! Both the Mrs and myself love snorkeling.
Thanks Congles, hope you have a great time too. We're going A-I too to give Mrs Ãber a break from her scullery.
Nice. You can't go wrong with Menorca Uber, it's a great Island for families. I did visit Punta Prima back in '92 when I first went there. We hired a car and explored the whole island. It's only about the size of the Isle of Wight. My wife and I were staying in Cala'n Porter which is nearby. We have been back four times since but stay in the west of the island in Cala'n Bosch. Punta Prima has a nice beach as I recall and is only 15 minutes from the aeropuerto. Have a great time mate.
Where are you staying Congleton? Cala'n Bosch is a great resort, nice beach, beautiful harbour with restaurants and bars. The water park is good too. Ciudadella is well worth a visit too. If you go down the steps by the cathedral there are some wonderful bars and restaurants where you can just sit and watch the world go by. It's beautiful.
I travelled far and wide this year to two different continents but the best holiday I had was in the Waterford/Tramore area on this beautiful island. Surrounded by family at a difficult time when we really needed to support each other. The week really brought us all a lot closer. Pure bliss. You don't always need to go somewhere exotic to make you happy.
Not sure what the hotel is called to be honest Nines, The Wife booked it and i just come up with the hard earned! Thanks for the tips though I think a visit to the water park is definetely on the cards for the kids and I'll keep an eye out for the cathedral and the steps you mention to find some nice haunts for evening entertainment . Will let you know how we go on. Cheers
hum......my holiday plans have been ruined by a vehicle costing me roughly £2k.........cam belt snapped and has buggered the engine. Wish that had gone before I had replaced brakes, drums and battery............ Enjoy your breaks.....
I'm just back from my two weeks in Menorca, Congleton. I suspect you're probably out there now, and I hope you're having as good a time as we had? We stayed at Punta Prima, which is a pleasant though small resort on the south-east tip, not far from Sant Lluis and Mahon. Like you said you planned to do, we hired a car (for three days, but wished we'd kept it longer). I think your resort is down in the south-west, just down from Ciutadella? I found the running and walks up and down the hills to be great fun and covered about 45 miles in the fortnight. We went to their zoo, which is sparse but OK, especially as you get to wrap a snake around your neck, stroke a porcupine and hand-feed a monkey or two... which the kids enjoyed. There is a waterpark just up from Ciutadella (but may be one at your resort too?), which we spent a day at, but it is quite small. Both Ciutadella and Mahon are worth visiting, but I have to say that both the food and service quality were extremely poor at every restaurant we visited - it was like being in Britain! It felt as though most of the locals were weary of the tourists and pretty much going through the motions, which put a bit of a dampener on things. P.S. thanks to Nines for providing some insight prior to our visit.
