It appears that Sky have thrown their toys out of the pram and are refusing to share their sports channels with BT even though they provide them for talktalk on a similar basis. Could it be that at last Sky have a serious challenger to their monopoly? Is that what the're frightened of? Sky provide great sports coverage of that there is no doubt but their subscription charges (extra £10 for HD what's all that about?) are extortionate.

As a BT Broadband customer I've signed up for free BT SportHD next season as it seems a great deal, what their overall coverage and analysis turns out to be like remains to be seen. I have no intention of adding Sky Sports to my package anyway but BT are, so I'm led to believe, taking Sky to court over their decision. Sky are even refusing to advertise BT's new service on their channels.

My take on this is that competition can only be good for the consumer, Sky pay a hell of a lot of money for EPL football but still make huge profits year on year from their subscribers. If BT's arrival on the scene means lower subscription charges all the better IMO.

It also appears that the Premier League have asked ISP's to block Firstrow Sports and other free streaming services from next year and it looks like that is going to happen. I suppose the fact that BT have now also shed out wads of cash for EPL football will mean they won't challenge that decision either.

Anyone else got any thoughts here ?

Another thing regarding sky is alot of pubs now can't afford it and are taking it out,and with the Premier League trying to block free streaming it is very likely only the people who can afford sky (and with the current climate thats not alot) you won't be able to watch any live football unless you have a season ticket for your club.

    Well don't subscribe to it.

Anyway, if you phone them up and tell them your switching to BT for everything, you'll get more than a tenner off your monthly bills.

Sky are terrified of losing people to BT.

    Exactly! <ok>

Sky might have a lot of influence over the IP's in this country, and probably Europe too, but they'll have none over Russia, and last season Russia provided some of the best links for watching football that I found on the net...

And even if Sky managed to convince the IP's to block the links, we can just use a proxy server to get past it, it's as easy as that! <laugh>

If need be, just PM me when next season starts and I'll tell you how to do it. ;)

I wonder how many Ipswich fans are putting money into our coffers?

Perhaps we should loan Wolfswinkel to them for a couple of games, after all they did make a contribution.

I watched our Ashes win in Australia in 2011 on the internet, cost me nothing, but the beauty of it was that I watched it on an Aussie channel, the whinging, near suicidal depressive commentary of the Aussies was a joy to listen to! <laugh><laugh><laugh>

HD channels are SO much better (football ~, cricket and tennis OMG yes - I can now see the ball!). Surely within a year or two, they are likely to drop the standard quality streams and the current HD Premium? Good streaming site is vipbox.tv

Are you with BT already max ? If like me you are the box is free but there is a £49 activation charge, you get BT SportHD 1 & 2 free ESPN HD and a few others, then IF you want additional channels i.e. Gold, Comedy Central etc etc it's £5 or £7 a month depending which package you opt for. There's also the option of PPV movies and PPV series box sets. Once this Sky business gets sorted and I think it probably will in the end, you can add Sky Sports 1 & 2 for an additional charge. It seems a good deal to me unless I'm missing something ?<ok>

P.S. If you are a BT customer you can always just 'opt in' and stream BT Sport 1 & 2 on your PC, laptop etc for absolute zilch <ok>
