All the conflict on this board is getting a bit crass and making me feel subhuman, maybe a flux of pink indians will brighten the mood

Can't be the Swans board he's banned for this very reason. Power to the people!!! <laugh>

My take for what it's worth is that Aber has a point in that spying on private individuals has got out of hand. But like many, I accept it has to be done to a degree. The terror plots that are foiled because of monitoring we never get to hear about but it's work the security services do day in day out.

There are many within the Islamic world who want to wipe us of the face of the planet. Not because of us meddling in their affairs (I accept that hasn't helped) but because it's mandated by the Qu'ran. Who is going to stop them if anarchy reigned - nobody. If the 'Establishment' didn't exist in 1939 we'd all be speaking German right now and everyone would have blonde hair.

    Night night. <ok>

No argey bargey intended from me guys. I probably made a mistake by posting a couple of tongue in cheek comments on aber's "serious" thread to the extent I got the usual verbal takedown by the OP.

Can't help it, I just had to respond - no harm done. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

I'm sure aber and I will resume normal relationships and avoid each others threads in future - I don't want a visit from the CIA, nor him for that matter.....<laugh>

    "I couldn't.give a flying Fk who signs for cardiff.city"

If you genuinely think that, aber then I question why you're even here.

Sparkey. I would leave this thread well alone mate. Aber is anti everything, and usually doesnt have a decent arguement to the contrary. In his view for example, i am an ex serviceman of 25 years standing and i am just a murdering barsteward in his eyes.
Each to thier own, but Hyde park corner is the best place for his ramblings.

    Aber,
Yes there are the deaths of people who are not directly involved in military action but the majority are not intentional and always regrettable. Glad to hear you haven't taken another's life but you haven't been shy about telling anyone who would listen about your violent past. Based on that alone I'd suggest more luck thank judgement was involved in you not killing someone.

How about answering my questions in thread #19 as it appears you do not want to discuss anything other wanting people to agree with your point of view.

Ronny (and others) - Aber went off on one with me because I tried (wrongly apparently) to lighten the thread with a couple of throwaway posts that seemed to upset him.

I've said my piece on this thread and also on the one I'd posted on which Aber sought revenge by ridiculing the subject matter.

Motives for posting threads vary - some want to talk purely about football - some fly off at a tangent for a laugh with no regard for football matters at all (dear old Proph was an expert), and others want to make a statement about strongly held beliefs.

This thread is obviously one of the latter, and I suppose you could argue that's fair for an open forum. What we tend to forget is that those who read this lot hold widely differeing views on the subject which lead to some heated and contentious comments.

I'm not a believer in overt moderation to the same extent that Aber is plainly not an enthusiast for covert actions, but at least we should be able to accept other's take on the subject matter. The problem is we never will, and it'll descend into what we see here due to posters taking up entrenched positions.

Personally, and this is only my opinion, this sort of soapbox issue is not appropriate for what is essentially a football and chat forum. No amount of time spent abusing each other on here over such matters will save a single life in the real world.

Aber, I beg to differ, individuals involved in any killing do feel regret and many of the lads suffering PTSD prove that point. The fact you have not been in that type of environment does not mean your point is any less valid but you cannot make a generalisation based on your belief alone. I know ex-servicemen who have spent 22 years in the forces and have never been to an active ware zone. Equally many have been to active zones and never shot a round in anger or indeed never been that close to the action. Modern warfare has meant less hand to hand combat or trench warfare. Your points of reference are historic and do not take into account the differing climates at the time.
In my opinion the anarchists (who as you say are a minority) would be just as bad as current governments if not worse as they will have to fight to keep themselves in power. The only way they could do that is to either spy on the people or oppress those they feel are a threat. That much history has taught us through the actions of Stalin, Hitler, Chairman Mao etc, etc....

You cannot compare the Nazi movement with the situation today. The German people at that time were suffering because of the 1st world war and the draconian measures of the Versailles agreement. Hitler was an extremely persuasive individual who tapped into the mind of all Germans based on their struggles. He brought his own like minded people and sycophants into power and that's when the real evil began. He did unspeakable things to his own people as well as the jews, gypsies and political activists long before the 2nd world war.
There are disaffected people out there, and believe me it includes a lot of ex-servicemen, that do not like the current government nor that of Blairs regime but they took the Queens shilling and served their country Welsh, Scots, northern Irish and English alike. Politicians may not regret the deaths of innocents but the vast majority of servicemen do.
