Slightly different tack but how much has this been a media creation? Whenever an event occurs they have to find a hero/ine to jack up circulation a bit. When that helicopter hit the crane in London they were suggesting the pilot steered it away from school/hospital/ASDA suoerstore.Try making a helicopter go anywhere with no tail rotor.(Apart from the obvious direction)

I don't think anyone denies they were very brave to do what they did, but for a George Cross it needs to be something exceptional. The GC is pretty much the civilian equivalent of the VC.
