http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22444675 Cardiff's City's out-of-contract midfielder Stephen McPhail, 33, is likely to leave the newly-promoted club after seven years in south Wales. Having been dogged by illness, the ex-Republic of Ireland international has not played a league game this season. McPhail was diagnosed with a form of lymphoma in November 2009 and then the autoimmune disease Sjogren's Syndrome. Meanwhile, defender Kevin McNaughton, 30, has opened talks about a possible new two-year deal. McPhail's departure and McNaughton's talks come as the Bluebirds prepare for their Premier League debut having dominated the 2012-13 Championship title race. McNaughton, who joined from Aberdeen in July, 2006, is, like McPhail, out of contract. However, having made only two appearances as a substitute in the FA Cup in 2012-13, McPhail will not add to 203 games he has played for Cardiff since joining from Barnsley in July, 2006. Scot McNaughton has made 263 Bluebirds appearances since his arrival.
Yes well done McPhail! That 6 -1 win over Derby comes to mind where his wonderful passes cut through the defense like a knife in butter http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/8267511.stm
Wish him all the best for the future. Despite everything he has been a great servant to the club. Calmness in midfield.
Good luck to the man, has been through the mill a bit but always a quality player even when passing sideways.
Yeah good luck to him, has been unlucky with illness. Have been lucky to meet him a few times and is a proper nice fella. Good luck and hope to see you back soon
macca wont be forgotten here, a very technical player who has played his part in where we are today....... good luck in the future macca.....
Just logged on to see this DJ - good thread and well deserved best wishes to the guy. Steve is a top bloke apart from his football abiltiy. Nice guys often don't win prizes but this guy deserves happiness and a future in football if he wants one. I'd have no problem if it was with us at a coaching level. Met him and Chopra several times when they bought a house each I was involved in building in Corntown back when they both first arrived with us (2006?). Chops (or rather his lady at the time) wanted to change everything and have the house fitted out their own way. It wasn't too bad as it was early enough in the build stage to do it. To be honest Chops was an OK guy, but his lady was calling the shots . On the other hand, Steve and his wife took the house next door which was more advanced built exactly as it was, and was a brilliantly pleasant bloke, as was his family. All the best Macca - you showed your class to me on and off the pitch. On the football front, that first season feeding Chopra with Scimeca alongside you riding shotgun was awesome.
