Home stats for Leeds with respect to attendance (above or below 20,000). Up to and including Sheff Wed match 13/04/2013 The stats/damned lies: To date: Above 20K Attendance W D L F A 10 2 4 24 20 Wolves LG 1-0 Blackburn LG 3-3 Forest LG 2-1 Everton LGCP 2-1 Barnsley LG 1-0 Birmingham LG 0-1 Palace LG 2-1 Chelsea LGCP 1-5 Middlesborogh LG 2-1 Bolton LG 1-0 Tottenham FAC 2-1 Blackpool LG 2-0 Peterborough LG 1-1 Huddersfield LG 1-2 Derby LG 1-2 Sheff Wed LG 2-1 W 62.5%; D 12.5%; L 25%; F-A 24-20 Below 20K Attendance W D L F A 7 2 3 20 12 Shrewsbury LGCP 4-0 Oxford LGCP 3-0 Hull LG 2-3 Charlton LG 1-1 Southampton LGCP 3-0 Watford LG 1-6 Leicester LG 1-0 Ipswich LG 2-0 Birmingham FAC 1-1 Bristol City LG 1-0 Cardiff LG 0-1 Millwall LG 1-0 W 58.33%; D 16.66%; L 25%; F-A 20-12 So the question is... Is there any real correlation with attendance and winning? (when you take into account anomalies like losing 5-1 to Chelsea in a match we were never realistically going to win) I think that there is (tenuous though it may seem) but of course I accept that there are many other factors* that can be involved but I am working on a simplistic tool here. *e.g. weather, available players, the Warnock effect, etc. I think (from at a glance) that a higher attendance gives us a better chance of winning or even getting a point (I know, I know, not exactly mind-blowing). A limited paw through the limited stats may at least indicate this. I just found it interesting. It just highlights that you have to all be together to do well, fractious relations affect the players and ultimately results (again I accept this is not exactly news). I would be more than happy for anyone's comments on the above, or indeed more in depth analysis. (I am aware there are 2 home games left. 2 wins at >20,000 attendance would make interesting reading!) All I can safely say is Welcome Brian and thank you for being positive and mot a moaning old gimboid like the previous. This is a nice feeling and also Leeds playing football is nice to see. Nice weather too well done Brian!
I don't think I have one (!) except that if we really, really want them to do well then lets all go. It can't do any harm can it? GFHC are at least trying to do something positive as far as I can see. I know it is all a bit simple and also common sense and the tenuous statistical correlation aside it was a pointless Monday morning effort at saying "lets all get behind the lads even when it appears to be going pear shaped and we might have a bit more of a meaty challenge next season." I don't take anything for granted and I think it will be 2 or 3 years before Maccy D can assemble a decent squad (I don't think we have a decent squad) blended with the great youth players we have and some awesome talent and experience. I hope he proves me totally wrong and does it next season.
IMO it is not just about the size of the crowd, Warnnock served us ****e, crowds dwindled, and many who kept attending were there knowing we were ****e and the negative atmosphere was passed into the players. Having said that I was shoutinng exactly what I thought of Morison on Saturday and the bloke in front and turned and told me to get off his back (he didnt quite put it like that). Five mins later Morison gets hauled off and we started looking a lot better. The bloke in front of me shut up and did not utter another word. Perhaps I should have done a wall and slapped him! lol
So what's the explanation for having the highest away following in the division, very vocal, supportive and passionate fans who constantly out sing the home support, and yet we've probably the worst record on the road out of anyone? If they can't get inspired to put on a decent display for fans who travel hundreds of miles every season, spending hundreds of pounds in the process, I don't think the size of the crowd at Elland Road is going to make the slightest bit of difference, whether it's a pitiful 18,000 or a 40,000 full house.
Yeah I don't think Morrison is in the best of forms and I think he might benefit from a punishing pre-season. Maybe Dom Poleon would be a better option. I have no doubt that size is not important (as I keep saying to my wife) but I do agree with you that the negativity got passed to the players. Blimey, it even got passed to me. Now though I am looking forward to the next game and quite frankly next season can not begin quick enough. At least we have a man who knows how to change tactics and also thinks that passing is important. Phew!
Hmmm, a good point well said. Away is tricky and depends on the home crowd (which is why I left it alone!) and ground and also lots of things I probably can't even think of. I don't profess to have any or all of the answers but it was just a little correlation that might have some bearing. I also could be completely wrong. Lets face it 20K is a totally arbitrary number. However, when the crowd is positive I think it has a massive positive impact on the crowd and, as noted in the post above, I think negativity can also be passed on to the crowd. So size isn't so much important as the atmosphere I guess. Maybe rating the level of positive atmosphere along with the crowd numbers would be more accurate. Nonetheless it is still a little play around but I feel it warrants discussion and some great points have already been made. Nice one.
Complete lack of statistical significance there, leaky. Lost games is exactly same proportions, and there has been half a win transferred to half a draw. The stats are exactly the same.
Sheldon & JohnnyLA Probably. It was a poor attempt at a skyesque analysis at best. Minus the glitz and continuous fanfare type music burst. Hopefully two more wins will at least make it slightly better. MOT. Well, 0-0 at the minute...
Woooo! A great win that has made the stats exactly the same and voiding the lot. Ah well. GREAT! Wooo! Maccy D, Maccy D, Maccy D!
